Hello, Went for 1 1/2 hour run on Saturday. I stopped at a friends and when I came out the was a funny light brown oil spot (possibly mixed with air)? under my 02 TBA. Looks like it came from a large breather tube. My oil might be filled a little full. Any ideas? Thanks in advance. Scott

Try tracing upward and see if it is coming from one of the 2 rubber hoses leading to the front half of the airbox. Those are supposed to have plugs in them to keep out unfiltered air. Normally, the plugs are removed to drain out condensed oil vapour that came from the crankcase breather hose each time the bike is serviced. If the hose is big, (maybe 1/2 inch OD or bigger) it may be that it is the breather hose that is supposed to connect to the airbox.

Greybeard: How can one tell if their hoses to the airbox have the plugs? I get a drip or two occasionally from one or the other. No noticable plug in either.

Those plugs are the infamous "squirrel condoms" I referred to in a post a long while ago. If you have one of those partial-throttle-on-while starting-the-bike-backfires they will blow right out of the hoses... They are just like the rubber plugs on your intake manifold... They are inserted into the 2 breather hoses from the airbox. Squeeze the hoses and you will feel them if they are in there. You have to sort of "milk" the hoses to get them out..... Kinky, ain't it?

When they blow out, do they go get stuck in the hose or blown completely thru? I have had a number of backfires, but my airbox is unfortunately still intact...

Mine bounced down the driveway.... that's how I found out what they were and why they were in there in the first place........ If I remember, there's 4 lines total. 2 in front of the swingarm with a wire bracket holding them in place, and 2 behind the curve of the swingarm. The 2 coming from the airbox are the same diameter, and have the plugs in them. The other 2 are 2 different sizes, one is the vent line from the fuel tank and the other one is the engine breather. Neither of those should be plugged. All 4 can get kinda slimey from time to time.....
