get it red hot with a torch (a bernz-o-matic not a flashlight for you outside the US) then drop it into a cup of cold water. Reuse.

annealing is best but I just slap it back on as is. Have for every oil change so far and no leaks. The one on my 64 BMW is still the one that was on it when I got it.

Copper washer from the hardware store, or a neoprene one in a pinch.

+1 on the copper. The only reason Triumph uses aluminium is because it's cheaper.

Copper from the hardware store works very well, that's why it is used on brakes.

Just thinkin' out loud but,
maybe the reason to use an aluminium washer rather than a
copper one is because of dissimilar metals, electrolysis,
and galvanic corrosion. You already have alum. case and
steel drain plug?????????

Thanks gents , i shoulda paid more attention when i was oil changing and flipped the washer every change . Instead i just gave the plug an extra tweek every time . So after talking to one of our mechanics at work , he says use a GM oil plug washer (they have a rubber like insert ) theywork like a charm.
