Thanks, Keith. Which shield is that? Is that the sport shield hardware? Which bikes hardware set fits ours?

That is the MS Big Shot shield. As for hardware... it is made for quick release. Which hardware set fits our bikes? Good question... I bought from FastEddy who has this whole thing figured out so I never had to know that. Eddy is the guy to ask and buy from if you want to go MS.

Thanks for the info and visual, Keith. I'm currently deciding what to do with the shrouds... Thinking they're going to go, so I may stick with a handle bar mount. Haven't dealt with Fast Eddie yet, but he seems to be held in high regard among this crew.

Those small lower screens, what purpose do they serve? I am not being critical I have never had a wind shield on a bike.

I've never had a windshield either but I think they keep the wind from coming up under the windscreen. It gives you more of a "dead air" space behind the windscreen.
All I have is a Dart flyscreen. I am wondering if the lowers will do anything for my setup.

Good thing you asked... if yer gonna open a biker store ya gotta know such things. Okay let me enlighten you. Steve answer is about right... they help stop wind coming up from below. You see, once you put on a windscreen it changes wind dynamics for the rider. Suddenly there is huge potential for buffeting... a condition that occurs when wind from below the windshield travels up and beats against the rider's head, causing the head to rattle. It can be quite violent. By adding lowers that wind is blocked which in turn either reduces or eliminates buffeting.
There are many variables which can and do play a part in making the rider more/most comfortable. But let me first say that adding a windscreen can often degrade the rider's experience. Sometimes, the rider was better off before strapping on a windshield. Getting back to the variables, they include:
- size and shape of screen - vents (or not) in screen - angle of screen - inclusion (or not) of lowers - size and shape of lowers - angle of lowers
Add to that:
- type of helmet (or not), - size of rider - seating position - even placement of feet
and ya got a lot of things to factor into the whole equation. There is no fast set of rules in this game and in fact a lot of what makes a windscreen work is trial and error. It can however be said, that lowers are an important consideration IF the rider experiences buffeting.

Keith,You like your with the small lowers better, how long did you run without them? Or did you just have enough experience with them to know what you wanted? Also I like that symbol on your front fender can you post a better pick of it?

On this bike I ran without lowers for a season. On bikes in the past I've run with shields, with shields + lowers, with fairings, without anything and I can tell you the best experience I've had has been with shield +lowers. On THIS, with THIS shield, THIS riding position, THIS, THIS, THIS. As I said, there are just so many variables. But I do at least, have a 'feel' for what works and what doesn't based on both logic and experience.
Trust me, I had to play with my setup. I've switched shields, tried ready-made lowers then made my own, tried mounting things at different angles. Like I said, it often takes some trial and error to get it right.

Everything Keith mentions is pretty well spot on, particularly the trial and error comment to get your setup right for you ie. You'll notice my memphis lowers are up side down which btw I've become used to and prefer. Don't let this turn you off including lowers though unless you just don't like the look of them. Some don't but most of of them don't like the look of screens either. If I had my way I wouldn't have a screen but for the type of riding I do and where I live, there is no way now I would be without one. One reason in particular here in Aus is the insects bombarding us as we ride along. For instance, if I had taken a photo of my screen after finishing my ride north last week covering over 1400k's, you probably would only see a wall of yellow and black remains where the bugs had hit my big shot and lowers but leaving me to ride with my full face helmet's visor up. The screen and lowers are so effective, I could count the amount of times a bug got through my shields defenses on one hand. I'm not bullsh*ting either. And that's just one reason for having the Memphis setup I've got.

Looks like the lowers can be adjusted up/down on the upper forks? Wonder if they would get in the way of the front turn signals I just relocated.

I only run with the windshield. I'm real short though and not having the lowers doesn't make a difference for me. As Keith said it's totally trial and error.
I'm getting the flyscreen from Fast Eddy for the summer. Husband put a flyscreen on is Roadster and he sure likes it.

That's a good question Dave and one I'll hopefully find out will considering I've had my relocatable brackets sitting there now for over a year.
I know but I've been waiting to do my bars internal wiring but before I do I have to have all the intended gadgets.
Anyway, I'm sure there will be a way to relocate the turn signals cos that's the only place I want mine.

` Memphis Fats & lowers. Black paint is Krylon Fusion. It's big and ugly, just like me I tried without the shield to see what's what and ran up the road at about a buck ten, pulled over & lit a smoke, said oh h3ll no, u turned & went back and bolted it back on.
