Hi guys,
My inaugural posting...
I have searched and found lots of info about digital speedo replacements but what I need to know is the speedo ratio as I intend to install an analog unit. I have heard 2240:60 but I think that is for the Bonnie and Thruxton.
Is the Speedmaster a 2:1 ratio?

2240:60 is right, I think? Are you going with one of those mini s on flea bay? They have some nice ones. Definitely not 2:1, that I am sure of.

I have been tinkering with putting a mini analog speedo in the console, but I would need an expensive 90 degree 1:1 12mm adapter http://www.speedograph-richfield.com/html/rgb2410_series.html to manage an acceptable cable angle, lot 'o' money for a little gearbox.

plenty of speedos on offer with 2240:60 ratio, but most are in mph, not much chop here in Oz...2 years ago when we swapped out th stock one, finally found a 60mm analog mini speedo 2240:60 in KMPH made by MMB & purchased from this mob in Germany for 80 Euro delivered to Oz... http://www.big-uglys.com/maybe more analog choices now

nice stuff...and the option to put it right or left(trip reset) is the speedo drive for the xs650 the same as the speedmaster/america?

Almost all Jap bikes of that era had 12mm thread connectors (same as ours), what you need to ascertain besides the ratio is that the dimensions of the spud on the inner cable end (the solid square drive) are the same. Suggest you contact seller and verify. Really helps to own a metric dial caliper or micrometer so you know what you need to find.
