Let me know if you see any errors.

Yes, I know there's an error message at the top when you create a new post. But you can still make a new post. I'll fix that when I can figure it out.

The forums should mostly be the same, though I moved the forum-specific disclaimers out of the headers of some of the forums into either a guidelines post or a link to the main web site.

So what just happened?
  • We changed Internet Service Providers.
  • The homepage has been replaced with a content management system for ease of updating. Don't get too used to the design, that's going to change. Also, I dumped the content from the old site into the new CMS but I haven't had time to verify everything. For example, I know the Spotlights page and Downloads page under Resources are hosed. The links on the Links page are probably mostly broken. Again, as I have time I'll fix those.
  • It took so long because I was plagued by issues with my internet provider, the local one, not the one where the site lives now. Late Sunday night those issues (DNS TTL for those tech savvy types out there) resolved themselves and I was able to move the database.
  • Your friendly neighborhood moderator team is dedicated to enhancing this site and maintaining it indefinitely. While I'm basically leading the charge, a few of the moderators will have all the information for all the accounts related to this site. This will insure that the site continues on no matter what.
  • The forum software is still the same old version 6.5.5. I attempted a test upgrade on my own server and it mostly worked, as long as you didn't want to read any posts. I've posted on the UBB Threads support forum and as soon as I figure out what went wrong I'll perform the upgrade here. But that interruption should be minimal (he says cautiously).

Feel free to ask anything about the site or the maintenance. I'll leave this thread up at the top for a while.

P.S. I had to rebuild the forum settings from scratch. Apparently they aren't stored in the database so they didn't come over. So if you see anything missing, let me know.

It does seem to be performing noticeably faster. For me at least.

John, there appears to be some styling funkiness when browsing the forum pages on the ipad (pic below). I did clear my browser cache and retry with the same result.

Basically that's what the site looks like without a stylesheet.

The old default stylesheet was called something else (because I started from scratch and wasn't paying attention). You need to go into "My Home" > Display Settings and pick a stylesheet or say "Use Default."

Hmmmm... "Large ranges can lock forums until the search is complete."

We'll try 3 years. When I have the old site archived and up on my test server (there are some things I need to check to compare that setup with this one) I'll see what it was set to before. Don't want to hamper this new speed if possible.

Well when I try to go to Active Topics I get this message "You cannot make a search at this time. Please try again in a few minutes." I keep trying and eventually I get through but it takes forever to let me in. Is anyone else experiencing this?

My replies to threads used to auto-subscribe (add this thread), now I have to manually check that box. Is there a way to toggle back on the auto subscribe?

Just thought I'd let you know that apart from an initial log on problem and having to reset the time and skins (is that the word?) I've had no problems at all.

The site is faster and the banner ads have gone

So thank you John & co, and if you're ever in my area I'll buy you a drink

That's because there is no red and black default stylesheet. The current default stylesheet is Soren's black and grey stylesheet. I lost the red and black in the move but I hope to find it soon. It wont be the default but it will be available. Ian already pointed out to me that it was missing. So until I restore it, go to My Home > Display Settings and change it to one of the stylesheets listed (or default).

"State of the Site" Update: Most of the issues from the migration to the new web server have been solved, at least the visible issues. In the next week or two I will try to upgrade the forums to version 7.5.6 which will bring a whole new host of features. Downtime should be minimal, and I really mean that this time.

In the meantime, don't forget we have a new homepage. The links page in the resources section of the homepage has been updated and verified. Let me or moe know if you think there are links you would like to have added. I know there's a 'Triumph Locations' thread that we could probably harvest links from. Next up, the Downloads and Spotlight pages need to be updated. I pretty much just dumped the content in there from the old site so they're quite broken. I have a cosmetic enhancement as well for the homepage, but it's pretty low on the priority list right now. Suffice to say it should tie in to the Member's Rides forum quite nicely.

I'd like to recognize Soren for accepting the "challenge" of posting news items to the homepage. He's always posting news stories about Triumph on the forums so we drafted him into duty for the blog. He's posted two so far and they look good! He also has provided the Worldwide Triumph News Feed for the sidebar from his TriumphConnection.com web site. Think of it as an opportunity to brush up on your language skills. Remember the site's slogan, "Worldwide since 2002."

Lastly, I would like to personally thank Phil Earnshaw (bonnyusa) for his service to the site as Administrator for many years. He picked up the slack as Robert was drawn away more and more from the site after the 2006 upgrade. Phil decided to step down from the administrator role but will stay on as a moderator. Thanks also to the rest of the moderator team for their continued support and service. I couldn't handle all this without them. You should definitely buy them a beer next time you see them.

Thank you John, Phil, Soren, Robert, Moderators and anyone else who helped past and present. Much appreciated.

Meanwhile I got this message while attempting two sequential searches.

You cannot make another search at this time. Please try again in a few minutes.

I just clicked on search again and it worked with no error.

John,
I finally looked at the new homepage and it looks d-amn good!!

However, at the top where it says "Dedicated to...." The portion where it says Triumph Speedmaster, the text looks jumbled/overwritten and not very clear on my screen. I don't know if that's part of the cosmetic fix, but just a heads up.

It doesn't say "Triumph Speedmaster" anywhere. It says "and Speedmaster" on the bottom line. The text is very small but it's readable on all my devices.

Actually it says, "Dedicated to the Triumph Bonneville America, Triumph America and Triumph Speedmaster".

Where it says "and Triumph Speedmaster", it is sort of illegible on my laptop screen, looks like Russian like letters or something overwritten the "and Triumph Speedmaster".

Although if I highlight it, it becomes legible and looks normal. Interestingly enough, I cannot highlight the text after Speedmaster.
