Hi! Hoping someone can help.. What happens when I unscrew this top cover? Does anything fly out? End of the world? or just lift off? Their both quite rusty around the screws and I have new bolts to replace them but might as well clean the covers as well.

theres a long spring that you need to mind. The spring could launch the last screw if your not careful.
When you put it back on be sure your not pinching the slide rubber (hehehe)...seriously! If the rubber comes loose you can gently press it back into place with your finger (hehehe)...seriously!

I replaced the old caps with the black LCF Custom finned carb caps that Brent sells. They come with nice SS allen head screws as well. If I recall, you can also access/replace your needles via the cap as well. Is that correct Z? I'm thinking of trying Thruxton needles this summer.

Yea, that 's correctomundo, that is your access to the needle, it is a good idea to match mark the cover to the body with a sharpie or whatever, fits the rubber diaphragm a little better on reassembly IMHO

Hi Steve. I would love to see some pics of your carbs needle covers you bought from Brent. I've been thinking for some time how good they look. Regarding your comment about trying Thruxton needles. I've just reverted back to oem needled plus one shim cos I'm afraid the thruxtons are just too thirsty and hence run rich using them. I've now tried just about ever combination and whilst I don't have a dyne to back my theory, what you see in my signature is what I'm thinking must be very close to spot on with my having Staintune pipes. By all means try the Thruxtons cos mid range they are great But fuel consumption drops dramatically meaning you know what. Don't forget those pics if you don't mind
Staintune Pipes, K&N Pods, 45 pilots, TBS needles and 145 mains.

A word to the wise is not necessary. It is the stupid ones who need the advice.
