Well, despite the sadness of the event, I'm very thankful. My grandfather passed away yesterday at 92 1/2. I'm very grateful that I was able to finally move out here and let him get to know his great grandsons for a few months at least and get to see him more frequently than every couple years. We last saw him about a week and a half ago, and he seemed GREAT, really sharp, happy, everything. After that, he went into the hospital again for some health issues, and decided after a day or so that he wanted to go to a hospice. Well, they gave him meds to make him comfortable, and took him off all the other meds, per his request, and he passed within a day or so of that, exactly as he wished to do (my grandmother passed 14 years ago). It wasn't unexpected, and I'm thankful that the last memories of him were with him in such great spirits and condition. Keep your family close and enjoy every minute.

When ya gotta go, (and we all will), that's the way to do it. Fairly fast, pain is muted and family nearby. It's great he got to know his grandsons, and vice versa. That is becoming a rare thing these days. Condolences.

I'm very sorry to hear of this. I am glad to hear, however, that he reached such a ripe old age and still sharp.

I'm sorry for your loss.
Short story, # 912
My mother went after my father, and spent some time in the nursing home before she left.
One day she leans over and says, in all sincerity "I wish Dad would come to get me -- but he's probably enjoying the quiet." I almost fell off my chair laughing.

When my grandfather died it hurt me deeply. At least he was active and on his farm right up to the end. I wasn't there when he died and that still bothers me. I was away and the family kept telling me he was doing better and going to go home any day. I'm glad you had some time with yours at the end.
