Ok, just replaced the flimsy stock shifter rod with the nice 3/8" one purchased from Brent. While fiddling around with the thing I managed to lose neutral and I don't think I'm even hitting all 5 gears. Pretty much hosed at this point. Can't seem to get the thing properly realigned. Any one have any suggestions other than hit-and-miss on how to fix this mess? Thanks in advance.

I had no problems with mine... How much are you screwing it in? I only got both ends started, then screwed it in till I got the pedal itself in a comfortable position. Maybe you knocked the shifter itself on the side case out of whack? I definitely noticed more positive shifting (especially since my old rod was bent and flexing) so maybe you are just shifting right thru neutral?

Maybe I'm screwing in the ends to far to begin with. I originally had it working OK but then wanted to adjust the height of the shifter peg. That's when the trouble began. I'll back it almost all the way out and start over again.

I added a polished, stainless sleeve to my shifter rod (poor man's solution). I decided to try and adjust the action/lever to suit my boot better. I pulled the rear arm off on the spline and cocked it a few splines clockwise to lift the lever higher. This made the shifter very difficult to modulate and find gears. I put it back the way it was and left well enough alone! Hope you found the OEM settings.

I adjusted mine exactly one spline clockwise to raise it slightly and it works like a champ. Maybe it was a spline off to begin with.

Yep, you don't want to move the shifter arm on it's spline, as that changes the leverage ratios (eg: it'll make it too easy to push and too hard to pull, or vice versa). You're limited to moving the adjustment built into the rod.

IMHO Triumph would have been better off using a keyed system instead of a simple spline so that arm could only be put on in the "right" orientation, but I guess that would have added to the production cost.

I agree with loosend on this one. The stock alignment on the trans shaft bellcrank was straight down in neutral. Adjusting the rod didn't give me enough boot clearance so I moved the bellcrank 1 spline to about 6:35... made all the difference and no problems...

That was the first thing I did after my first ride. The stock alignment made me keep my foot pointed down . I don't see how it could change the leverage that much. I have no problems whatsoever with shifting.
