Hoping to finish up my 72 Bonneville by spring. I got about 1200 miles out of her, and 3 rallys last year, but she still needs alot. Cylinder head off (again) for front pushrod tube leak, both Amals have to be sent off to Lund mfg for slide fix (sucking air around slides), new paint, as the Autozone spray paint crumbled with a gas spill, turn signals that Santa promises this year, and hopefully a tach and speedo drive. Im thinking another 3 to 400 bucks outta do it...Going to 2nd shift next year for some serious overtime!! (One mech on 2nd shift has 175 hours at time and a half, and the year ain't even over yet!!!)

If you are going to be using rattle cans again try this stuff for the clear coat http://www.repaintsupply.com/pd_2_part_2k_aerosol.cfm I've used this stuff with great results. The urethane hardener makes it way more resistant than just laquer especially when it comes to the gas spills.

You don't have to send the carbs off for slide work you can hone the body and buy an over size slide.

If you need to hone them be very careful since they are soft and a hone will take too much away very fast. I just buy over size slides, might have to take the carb body in to the shop if you can't mic them. (don't know what inside measuring tools you have) Get the size you need and then figure how much you need to take away. I use the slide and some 400 grit paper. I test fit the slide and determine where it hits the body and sticks. Then I sand that spot a little and fit again.once it goes all the way in tightly then I buzz a brake hone through very fast. Test fit and run it through again if the slide doesn't move smoothly. I use a motion when sanding sort of like the crosshatch left by a hone. Need to be careful not to remove too much material and keep the bore round. I've done this on hundreds of morn Amals.Used to get my oversize slides from Hermy's but haven't done one in a few years.Never had one sucking too much air but have had them rattle due to the wear.
