In Spring of 08, I had the good fortune of riding the entire 500 plus miles of the two. I stayed in CCC camps along the way, one being a former segregation camp. As many know, the landscaping and stone work along the way is in large part due to the efforts of the CCC. That's just my limited exposure to the works of the CCC. I believe they worked in every state at the time.
Last night I saw the story of the CCC. Well worth a watch.

Some of the accomplishments of the CCC:
Put millions to work during the Dust Bowl & Depression.
Planted billions (with a B) of trees to remedy the 150
years of land abuse that caused the Dust Bowl.
It is reported that one half of all the trees now growing in America were planted by the CCC.
Created what are now many of our state & federal parks.
Just after Pearl Harbor, many of the CCC members, already trained in teamwork, went off to fight WWII.
Northeast Rally attendees - Stony Brook Park & Letchworth Park were built by the CCC, and a statue in their honor is erected at Letchworth. I wouldn't doubt that many of the trees there are theirs too. Don't know for sure.
The impact & results of the CCC are without a doubt one of the most important and interesting stories of the last 100 years in American history.
