A cool sticker could be a temporary solution. Cutting the rear fender I think might involve paint.

It would be possible to get a heavy duty viynal sticker, available in various colors including chrome, and just cover the holes. Make some kind of pattern and dress it up a little for accent. Most modern sign shops carry this material and you'd be surprised at the color selection and toughness of the material.

Here a great lay down licence plate write up from a member here with all the measurement work done. I used it and it was dead on. There's also some other takes on the design further in the thread that allows for signals to still be used behind the lay down plate. I bolted mine through the fender.

If you still want to relocate to the right side, this was my temp. fix, as I didn't want to alter my stock fender. Yes, I know it's too "busy" with the Flying eyeball sticker and all, it was a temp solution. I finally got a used fender that I could cut and paint, without changing my original. Again, it will cover the recessed area until you come up with something else. I just cut a $2.00 piece of flat stock brass from the local hobby shop to fit in the original gasket, and epoxy a Triumph emblem (or ANY emblem in the middle.

Isn't the "Flying Eyeball" the icon for some old early hot rodder from Calif.? I suffer from "sometimers disease", sometimes I remember, sometimes I don't.

I did mine like this also . .but instead put some mini-bullets light in the fender strut!
Took a flat piece of metal bolted the Lic. plat to it. Then bolted the that plate in where those 3 hole were covered it up! Rear brake light still lights up the plate!
Are we there YET? I gotta go pee!!

Any chance of you posting a pic of that setup of yours, Jason? Sounds like something a lot of us around here would like to see!

Ya know, I now have a bobbed rear fender, gloss black, and REALLY want the same Flying Eyeball I have on the green fender. It was "special order" from an ebay seller about two years ago who could make the wings any color asked for. I got mine, with gold leafing, and loved it. I have contacted EVERY seller on ebay now, but none say they can to that!? I sure wish I could find one now!
And you may see me tonight

I did a side mount plate last week for a friend who wanted to wait to paint the whole bike when he sorts the fender. Interim solution a few electrical grommets (blind rubber type). Looks perfectly ok as a temporary measure until it all comes off...
