Any style o' traffic camera is no style for me. Where I live they actually discontinued them... go figure!

Getting unregistered and uninsured cars of the road would a great thing over here Speed cameras are a good thing , as long as they are not getting me

You guys really support the notion of big brother watching you every where you go? Traffic cams, red light cams, how about street light cams to see if people are J walking. Or street cams to make sure you mow your grass when it gets too long. You guys don't have enough Draconian nanny state regulations

How about laws that whould hold you responable for your actions instead like if you cause a wreck for speeding you have to pay all the damages and the emergency responders and the lost time for the rest of the people who your actions affected then top it of with you are forbidden to drive for 1 year.

Actually, they do support it. A vast majority does. It's cut crime having cameras EVERYWHERE and people feels safer. Has to be true, I've seen it on TV.

You are right as usual master John  . Every year they put up more cameras and make more laws  The crime rate as a result goes down.  I love it its great Big Brother save me.

Makes me frustraited to have so many of those danged things. If they flash, people start looking everywhere but at the road, and it seems to cause more accidents. Sigh! We have them for red lights too, and if the maintanence guy is nearby changing the "film" they run a series of flashes so people get all wound up thinking they did something wrong, and weave around trying to get back into the flow of traffic.
They do get a good picture of the driver's face, so people go in to argue that it wasn't them. If anyone else was driving, they have a chance to argue. Also, they don't issue for motorcycles here, since they can't get a good view of the face. Don't go speeding by them on your bikes though! Usually an officer is nearby to catch people too.

They had cameras at some stop lights here and the ticket revenue went down so much they got rid of them.

We have speed cameras now that operate from the red light cameras so if you try to gun it thru to beat the red you get done for speeding.

(a) A municipality may not implement or operate an automated traffic control system with respect to a highway or street under its jurisdiction for the purpose of enforcing compliance with posted speed limits. The attorney general shall enforce this subsection.
(b) In this section, "automated traffic control system" means a photographic device, radar device, laser device, or other electrical or mechanical device designed to:
(1) record the speed of a motor vehicle; and
(2) obtain one or more photographs or other recorded images of:
(A) the vehicle;
(B) the license plate attached to the vehicle; or

stuff like this is never black and white. They do good and they do bad. When a guy runs a red light and smashes your car, youre gonna be glad you can prove who's fault it is, instead of dealing with some long drawn out lawsuit.
At the same time, you can find yourself only running the lights that dont have a camera just out of principle.
Speed cameras are the work of the devil.

My friend got caught on one of the speeding cameras, and the funny part was in the photo you could see his wife,finger pointing at him. He said she was scolding him for speeding.  ~Brent

Speed cameras are a revenue raising device.Even police here have said so.The police themselves don't like them.Cops on the beat stopping wrong doing is what's needed.Cameras issuing hefty fines for exceeding the limit by 3kph are money spinners that do nothing to stop speeding or cut road deaths,accidents,road rage or anti-social road behaviour.
Now here they're diguising them in vans,unmarked cars,4 wheel drive,whatever.
.However some enlightened places have abandoned speed cameras.
Unfortunately,governments are hooked on the money raised[which is an enormous amount]from them.
I agree with STREET cameras.In malls,main streets,nightclub districts etc.They have been proven to cut crime.I also agree with red light cameras.Running red lights is STUPID and should be penalised
But speed cameras?

when have you ever known the government to do anything in a reasonable way. They go to far every time, so I am not in favor of any cameras taking pictures of me for the government at all.
If you want to stop people from running a red light stop the fine crap and just beat them with a horse whip. 30 lashes will slow anyone down and make them stop at lights. Then if it don't permanently revoke the freedom to drive.

Just curious, how do they tell if you have insurance or not? Are you guys required to have a sticker or some sort to display on the vehicle? Always like to hear of how different places do things.

They're all linked to a central computer, and they all have number plate recognition, so its all done off your registration plate, ANPR its called. Which is why our plates have to be so big, and there are other laws about spacing of letters etc.
Of course, foreigners can get away with things we can't as its too mutch hassle to go after them.

We have a registration/insurance sticker on the left side or rear of the vehicle,that can be used identify the vehicle.They are also trying to bring back front number plates,which were abolished as safety hazards in accidents.
Reason is motorcycles evading speeding fines.I heard one state gov't spent $400,000 trying to find a safe front plate and couldn't.
bikes account for 5% of registrations.How many evaded fines? How many cars evaded fines trough dirty/missing obscured plate? No one's telling.

When I got stopped in Georgia (USA) a couple of years ago, the state trooper didn't want to see my license or anything. I stole a glance in his car, he had a laptop with my picture and all the information on all my vehicles displayed.
