I've removed my snorkle, enlarged the top opening and carved a new bottom opening to get maximum air through my K&N air filter, and rejetted. My air/fuel mixture is spot on and the power and throttle response are great. However, now it's time to go to pod filters.

I've read everything I could find on cutting up the air box, but almost everything I've found that's really detailed is on the RAT forum, and is on models other than the America.

I would really like to see what others have done with their air boxes on Americas to add Pod filters.

I believe that in addition to making sure I have everything secured that is now secured to the air box, I need to relocate the battery, brace my carbs and put in something to keep water, etc., from coming up from below and from the rear tire.

Any information or pics on what you have done would be appreciated.

The easiest but not the cheapest is to get a FREAK kit from Fasteddy Sports.

you dont have to relocate the battery in order to use the pods. Its more of a preference really. What you need to decide is whether to....

keep the graters and side covers = freak kit/ghetto freak kit

get rid of the graters and side covers = relocate the battery

since you mentioned it though, I will reassure you that you dont need an extra fender piece to prevent roost from hitting underneath the seat. The battery bracket itself does this job, which is actually a very small amount if any depending on your riding conditions. If you can picture the rear tire going forward, the water shoots downward off the top of the tire.

I cut the air box in half, retaining the rear half which serves as a battery holder. I cut the metal bracket that holds the battery, ignition key and fuse box, eliminating the battery holding portion and retaining the ignition and fuse holder. So the battery is now directly under the seat and I no longer have the cheese graters or side pod. I went with 4 inch UNI pod filters and changed my jets to 152 main and 42 pilot. Now it's time to do a dyno run (when the weather permits) and fine tune the bike. If anyone is interested in doing something like this shoot me an email and I can send you pics of what I did.
