I can't remember which still we should use on our bikes. IIRC, dimpling is for drilling to do internal wiring? Or do certain kinds of hand controls need dimples for something else?

I have changed handle bars several times, always ordered nondimpled. I think the dimpled ones have a long (dent or dimple) to allow the wires to come out from under the controls.

If you're considering running your wiring through your bars then you should get dimpled. The dimples allow the wires to exit/enter the bars at a very shallow angle (making it easier to thread the wiring which can be a tricky job) and your wiring can also run under the control fittings (as already mentioned).

What he said. I bought dimpled for mine in order to run the wires through the bars, it creates a small gap under your control housings for easier/cleaner wire routing. If you aren't wiring through the bars I would get non-dimpled.

Ultimately I would love to hide the wiring, but these are Biltwell Keystones and I think they'd be a little hard to run wires through. I'm sure there's a way, though. They don't have non-dimpled in stock though.

I plead ignorance. What are dimpled bars and why would that affect the running of wires internally or not?

Yeah those keystones look difficult with those switchback angles - I had difficulties even with 90 degree angles on some T-bars. The loom is bulky and I would be worrying about damaging the insulation pulling it around those angles - there may be sharp bits in the inside welds.

I'm not sure. They are taller but they are also narrower. I would run them with stock america (or aftermarket but the same size) risers, removing the Jim's Spacers I have on there now. I'm already running my throttle cables on the right side of the frame.

When I did mine I drilled the hole under the housing of the control so the wires were completely (hiden? spelling) for the entire length of the handle bar. I didnt need no stinkin dimple!

Yeah, you don't want dimples. The pods won't screw on completely tight so you'll have a gap. Its because the bars where the dimples are aren't completely round anymore. You want no dimples, you can still hide the wires. I have biltwell mini apes and it worked out fine.

I wanted the gap so I could run the wires for the brake light switch and the clutch switch through there too. Didn't think I could do it the other way. Oh well.

Yeah, I meant gap as in the pods won't tighten down all the way. At least on my bars. I had non dimpled but when I laid the bike down they were bent(just barely, strong bars!) and the shop replaced them with dimpled bars. I was kinda annoyed but they did such a good job wiring them for me I just let it slide cause I didn't want to wire them again. Was a PITA.

I don't like the dimples, they are too long. In the worst cases, the bars appear flat on the underside. They will also stop you using an internal throttle assembly.
I'm just doing the internal wiring through the bars (only the second one I've done.
I much prefer drilling holes, where I need them, although on the set I'm working on at the moment, I used my trusty angle grinder to chop the holes out.
