Tell me about it - when I was a teenager I would only listen to "heavy metal"/rock music.

Nowadays my MP3 (on shuffle) can follow Guns'N'Roses with Jools Holland or even Wagner!!

( I draw the line at C & W music though!!)

I agree about C and W Cant see me ever listening to that. I was into Heavy metal and punk back in the day and still enjoy listening to it but also enjoy blues and folk. Definately must be an age thing....

I never tasted music. Only listened to it. Ha Ha I do listen to some of the things I wouldn't have listened to when I was youngster, and don't listen to things I use to listen to.

Age seems to broaden my musical tastes. I love rock & roll, but there just isn't any real rock bands making new music any more. I've grown fond of most jam bands and even some garage style rock & roll. I can't stand listening to the same old classic rock. Don't get me wrong, I love my Zeppelin and Pink Floyd but to me rock has to be fresh and changing.

Dude. You didn't have it loud enough

I was into Zeppelin, Sabbath, BOC, Deep Purple, Pink Floyd, and many more. I still like to hear them but I too have developed a broader appreciation of different music styles.
Ritchie Blackmore, formerly of Deep Purple and Rainbow is playing differently these days and I really like his new stuff.
I find that I enjoy jazz now, when thirty-forty years ago I would flee when I heard it.

Hmmmmm...is my musical taste changing as I get older?

Well, maybe.

Ya see, I actually watched the 1951 Technicolor version of Jerome Kern's "Showboat" last night on TCM all the way through, and I have to say, I DID enjoy it...though it was probably watchin' Ava Gardner in her prime that REALLY got me hooked from the get-go. Yep, Ava in vivid Technicolor! Do ya blame ME???!!!

(..."Ol' Man River, he jus' keeps rollin' aaaaaaaa-long!")

Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

I have grown to like blue grass and I would never have listened to that in my younger days.

Seasick Steve is a unique artist for sure. He does some truely amazing things with 3 strings, a carpet covered box and a distorted amp. I think this clip is a great example of his style. SeaSick Steve - Cut my Wings Another fantastic bluesman is John Mooney. Ive been listening to him for many, many years. John Mooney - I'm a Country Boy is one of my favorite clips that are publicly available. Another one I like (and I was at this particular show) is John Mooney - Empire State Express

I, grew up pretty much only listening to 70's and 80's punk rock, and Surf music (still do) but as I get older I find I like old timey and outlaw country (Ernest Tubb to Hank III), lots of jazz (John Coltrane) the crooners (Frank Sinatra and especially Dean Martin) and finally thanks to my wife a lot of wierd indy rock (I really dig Calexico) that I would never have thought to listen to. We actually had music by Henry Mancini, Dean Martin and Calexico at my wedding, talk about non-traditional.
examples:
Dead Kennedys
Beach Boys
Ernest Tubb
Hank III
John Coltrane
Dean Martin
Calexico

...and that's what I'm listening too while I'm riding.

You can go to johnmooneylive.com click on the music link and see all his albums. From that page, you can listen to the entire "Big Ol' Fiya" album. Click on any of the buy now links and you wind up at amazon.com. My favorite of his is "Against the Wall", closely followed by "Big Ol' Fiya". If you prefer recordings of live music, he plays every year at the New Orleans Jazz Festival. CDs of past performances and sample clips are available at this site. Jazz Fest Live Recordings There is a lot of very good music available at that site!

I grew up on metal and southern rock; still love it today. Yet, last few years I've really gotten into the Scottish festival/Highland Games scence and found some truly awesome Celtic rock bands. So much so I passed on seeing Dokken last night here in San Diego and went to a festival instead where one of the newer bands I've discovered was playing. They're called Brother...very tribal Celtic flair with an Australian twist.

I'm a big fan of most New Orleans music (and most blues based rock)....John Mooney is great. Want to find some free, download-able (or streaming) tunes? Check this out: Internet Music Archive
You won't know all the bands available, but will likely recognize some....like Little Feat, Warren Zevon, Derek Trucks Band....
My favorite? The Radiators

Unfortunately, the Rads announced last night that they will be breaking up in June of 2011....so, if you get the chance, see them while you can. And, as they say in NOLA, "Yeah, you right"...Galactic is a good time also...so many great musical acts in that town.

And as luck or fate (who knows) would have it, they are playing just down the road in Syracuse, next Saturday night 11/20. Gonna be there. Thanks for the link!

Sure. The Lost Southlake Sessions and Wild and Free There are, of course, quite a few others. These are pretty recent, and should be available.

I know you don't wanna do the download thing, but, if you have computer speakers, many of the links found in the archive are stream-able. So, for example, if you want, try this link: Archive show from 10/30 and click the little play icon in the black song-listing window...should work well if you have sufficient bandwidth. I would also be willing to make you some CDs of concerts if you would like, just send me a PM with you address, and I'll send you a couple. That goes for anyone else as well. This is approved by the band, as they allow taping and trading of their shows...including use of a soundboard feed, which is why these archived shows sound so clean....
