while it is nice to know the oil temp, just knowing it can be worrisome as well. refer to the current 'how hot' thread.
many times I have looked down at that oil temp gauge (while stuck in traffic) and wished I had never put it on there, because 'now I am thinking about something that I can't do anything about'.

While that rings true I would rather know before it's too late than find out the hard way.

I have the New Bonneville oil temp guage (black)on my speedmaster. Simple install and looks awesome. I really don't care what my oil temp is...just thought it would look cool. And it DOES! The only issue is that when you remove the stock cap, there is some unpainted metal that shows after you install the oil guage. A little flat black paint took care of that though. Its pricey but I recommend it.

There is another gauge that looks the same and is of good quality but costs less. Looks to me like it might even be the same manufacturer. Not sure if we ever sorted a way to order them in the US or not though.

I think it was settled on that they dont ship here to the colonys.Stuck with the newbonn gauge, which is very nice but salty.I agree that I would rather have one and worry a bit then not have one and stay in the dark.Besides that,,,,,it looks kewlll.

OK, thanks, but I would really like a guage that actually is immersed in the oil rather than just reads the resevoir and any "splash" -- the oil pressure gauge does, why not an oil temp gauge. I remember that in my old VW's that oil temp trumped oil pressure cause if the temp went up it would clue you into pressure, but not the other way around. Thoughts?

I know what you mean, however on the other board, a member checked his NB gauge against a calibrated immersion probe thermometer & found that the NB gauge was pretty close.
Just cruising along, the oil temp on mine runs about 175F, with the ambient temp at about 70F.
Not my intent to start an oil war thread, however the type & viscosity of oil can & does influence oil temps, to a limited degree.

It cant be immersed if inserted through the oil fill hole on our bikes. The splashed oil will be the same temp as the rest of the oil anyway.

OK, makes sense, and I guess I was just thinking about something that would give a remote reading, although I am not sure where I would mount a guage.

A probe type gauge with a remote dial could be done in a few places. Easiest might be through a modified sight glass.
