Hey guys I've been lurking around for awhile and now it's time to post. I'm in need of new tires as I've just squeezed out about 12,000 miles on the front Lasertech and rear M880. I'm on a tight budget so the Avons are out of the question for me, and I was never really happy with the Metzlers, especially the rear it always seems to want "kick out" in turns. So I was looking at the Pirelli mt66 anf Kenda Kruz and wanted to hear from the guys who are running them

I've been happy with the Lazertech on the front, I just ordered a new one, but I'm with you the marathon on the back seem to want to "kick out", but it is still in really good shape even after 13,000 miles. I will be looking for something perhaps a little softer for my next rear tire. Something that is better in the rain, perhaps.
I know there are a lot of opinions on tires here, so I'll be keeping my eye on this thread.

...and by the way, WELCOME!

although I am not sure if I can attribute it to the Lasertech directly, I have developed that front end wobble at 40-45mph that alot folks on here talk about with the Lasertech "cupping" I won't know for sure until I change my tires but I'm anxious to see, and I'm glad someone has experienced their rear Metz kicking out to,thanks

I love the IRC Wild Flare for the back, very good traction and handling wet or dry. Not very expensive either. I'm still running my Lazertech front at 25,000 miles but it needs to be replaced now.I'm not the only one who likes the IRC on this site.

+1 on Ian's Wildflare's. I liked them but wore them out
pretty quick (4000 miles or so).
But then I'm hard on tires. Unless it's raining or there's
a cop around, my 0-60 is as fast as I can do it and my freeway
riding is 80-100mph. And no, I don't tailgate.
The reason I liked the Kenda Kruz so much
(just put on my 2nd rear one) is low price, and
the mileage is the same as a Metz Marathon(7k).

I did get less mileage out of the IRC than the Metz but it was enough cheaper that it was a wash. I didn't save anything because it wore out faster but I liked the tire better.I ride like Brian describes too. Tire wear depends on road conditions as well as how you ride.

I really like the Metz and have ran several sets. I hear others mention "kickin" out. I'm curious, what PSI are you running front and rear? What is your weight? Solo rider?
How many miles did you get from the Metz?

FWIW, I have always liked the Metzlers, even in the rain. I finally ditched the lasertech on the front and went ME880 front and rear.

I liked my Metz. tires too and never had an issue with traction wet or dry. I went with the IRC Wild Flare because it cost less and has a cool flame tread pattern. Once I had the IRC it performed very well,so I have been using them ever since and will buy another once I wear this one out. (on my 2nd and Wendy is on her first)My front Lazertech has 25,000 miles on it now and needs to be replaced. I want the IRC Wild Flare to match the rear but I don't want to change tire size up front.

I like the Avons, not cheap, but lower priced than the Metzlers. I usually get around 17,000 miles with the rear Avon Venon. The front I run the Avon Roadrider. I currently have 24,000 miles on it. I do need order a new front one soon.It is down to the tread wear indicators,so I need to order a new one. Most of my riding is on the freeway and I run the pressures high, the rear I run 48 to 50 psi,and front 40 psi. Bike now has 65,000 miles on it. I should mention I am around 175-lbs. and usually ride solo. This bike is the only bike I have ever owned that I have gotten this kind of mileage out of the tires.

I've been running 36 psi on the front and 42 rear, what the Metzler website recomends. i ride 50/50 solo/2 up. I take it easy in the turns riding 2 up, but ride more aggressive solo in the turns and that's where I experience the "kick out". I got 12,000 out the lasertech and marathon as a set, but in all honesty I should have change tires 2-3000 miles ago, both the front and rear are smooth as a baby's butt although there are no cords showing.oh by the I weigh about 210 lbs and the the girlfriend weighs about 140lbs( she thinks because she is 5'10 she can get away with saying she is 130 lbs!)

I run the IRC on the front, and will get a new one on the rear for my next tire. This one has lasted longer than the two other tires I had on there. (Bridgestone and Metzler Lazertech). Also had better ride quality and less road noise.

Pirelli MT66 is the best. Got my first set at 36,000 miles. Replaced front at about-14-15,000. Put 28,000 on Rear when I replaced it at 64,000.
Now have 90,000 on bike, buying a front,Rear still looks good. Motorcycle superstore has been very good with service and deliver. Bike is 02 bonneville america,Black and Silver
Just wish I could get 40-50,000 out of a chain.

Might be your shocks and not the tires at all. Stock or after-market and what kind of pre-load are you running?

Guys I'm on my third set of METZ 880's front and rear, soon to be forth set as I need to shoe my newest ride as well. 42000 on the clock. Never cared for the Lazertech look
I average 12000 and currently have 13500 on a set and could run them longer but I like myself to much to push the envelope for a couple hundred bucks.
I run 33psi front and 35psi rear. I check psi and chain adjust religiously, as in every ride.Weight, 170 wringing wet Solo, 95% of the times. Progressive suspension, front and rear.
Twisty roads like you would not believe, unless you've visited the area. I don’t experience this “ kick out” I hear about. I think the bike runs on a rail with a set of seasoned 880’s.
$243.00 delivered from AMT “check the tech vault”.

I set the pre-load on 2 riding solo and move to the fourth riding 2-up. I have wondered if the stock shocks maybe had something to do with the "kick out"

Do the Pirelli Mt66s have the big white letters on the sidewall like they do in the pics online?

I'd say yes. I've replaced mine with Progressive 412s for just that reason, I wanted confidence in the turns. However, before you just go out and buy new shocks you'll probably get better results if you actually have your 2-up other help you measure the amount of sag when you're solo...most agree it should be around 30mm. Set your pre-load to give you 30mm of sag when you're onboard and give it a go.
