I tried the old search but couldnt turn anything up, so, is there a valid reason why we cant remove the balance pipe? Im thinking if it was gone then I could get correct mixture on left and right with out the opposite one influencing the reading. Hit me up with comments on for or against removal and if anyone has tips on what they used to blank the holes off would be great, photos even better. This winter is going to be a good one if all goes well I should have my BB kit in my hand by Friday so Im making plans for a total strip, tweak, rebuild winter.

The crossover/balance pipe increases exhaust scavenging and increases low end torque and top end horsepower, it's not an absolute necessity but if I were fabbing up a new set of pipes I'd included it for sure. I'd be interested in a set but I'm in the US I could probably have a set made for the cost of shipping from NSW. Hope the balance pipe info helps.

I found on the dyno that it made 0 difference with gutted pipes. I like the exhaust note with the cross over removed but I saw no other reason to do it. I think with restrictive exhaust it should probably be left in.

If you have restrictive pipes , you need to leave the crossover . Removing/blocking it will give you a distincvtive poppoppop kinda note , but at the expense of some low to midrange torque . I tried it , but went back to the crossover and gained noticeable torque .

Easily done with a sawzall or hack saw once the headers are removed. Leave enough stickout to install and weld-in-place the appropriate sized freeze plug.

What did the dyno show? Loss of power or is all that BS? Quote:

No BS , you will lose some low to mid-range torque . To quote the Washrider Road Ryder , "That stuff's for racing"

What numbers are we talking? I assume it wont matter all that much with a street bike. And I assume it depends on your other mods but are we talking a handfull of hp/torque or is it a large chunck. I guess if my but dyno cant tell I am not that worried.

I took the crossover out of my bike after I had the dyno run when I was tuning it. I ran it on a dyno again later with the same set up just to see if I needed to tweek it at all and the cross over being removed made no difference at all...0 change. I had the same torque and same HP as before I cut it out only difference was the exhaust note.
I am running open pipes and K&N pods.

Terry, Here's a link to earlier posts concerning the removal of the cross over pipe: http://www.bonnevilleamerica.com/forums/...rt=all&vc=1I removed mine about 3 years ago. Did not hurt the performance but changed the "note" of the pipe. I welded a metal slug over the hole. Never had a problem with it... Gene

Ok I have sound clips and I am working on trying to get them uploaded so everyone can hear. I took them on my phone and it appears most computers are not compatible with the format.
If you want pm me your cell # and I will send them via mms text.
What I have is a 2007 America 32" x 3" EPCO turnouts with the cross pipe removed, snorkel removed and bottom of the air box/filter cut. The sound clips sound good, but I can not even begin describe the in person sound.

Has anyone tried a baffle, say a 50% value, such as a washer or inserted metal doughnut?

If this a plug that can be inserted into the cross-over pipe, and removed later if I don't like it......... can you make one for me? Just what I want. Or send the specs to the dog, and I'll beg him to turn one for me. Thanks, Uncle Charlie

You wouldn't have to beg Charlie but there is an easier way. There is a freeze out plug that fits but I can't remember the size anymore. I took my pipe to Napa and tried them until I found the right one. I welded mine in place but I didn't really have to.

That must be what we call a frost plug up here, Ian. I'll look for that to plug the x-over pipe.

This is what I mean, it blocks holes in the water jacket of an engine as well as other holes too, like the intake openings from casting on some cars.
