Me and Jr. will be trailering down to Bikeweek again this year. Jr. rolled his off the trailer as soon as we hit nice weather on the way down and rode back till North of Atlanta on the return trip. My turn this Year! We will be staying at my Dad's Geezer park in Orange City. Arrival should be Sunday AM the 5th. and departing on Saturday the 11th. I need to ride the loop again. Anyone else going to be there? We will be bringing some Old Style and Vienna hot dogs for Ryan. Mike Sr.

Old Style? ewww! I used to drink Old Style when I was broke. 25 and 50cent drafts! Why don't you bring him a decent local brew?

Doesn't look good for me this year. My friends that I usually stay with are not going and vacation time is tight. I am tenatively planning to come up on Friday the 10th and leave on Sunday. I might be camping out...

I'll be going for the first time this year. I'll be trailering down with some guys from work. We're leaving on the 2nd and driving through. We'll be staying until the 13th.

I'll definitely be going and I've never been. Although I'm in Florida (NW panhandle), Daytona is 450 miles away. No trailer, I'll be riding with 3 Harley friends leaving on the 5th. We'll actually be in Daytona 6th-9th. We're riding the scenic route and stopping for a night going and coming. I'm looking forward to the traveling part as much as getting to Bike Week.

950 miles away from Daytona. Not being an experienced "long distance rider"..albeit a pretty hardy guy IMHO ...is say, 450+ miles a day way to much to be doable?

Happy Days are Here Again! Let me know what I owe ya, and don't sweat it if you don't have room!!!!!! Hopefully, we will be toasting the Super Bowl Champs at Bike Week.
HOWEVER WARNING:::::
AS I mentioned in an offline email, my wife is expecting our 2nd child sometime around the 10th. My availability will be contingent on this obviously more important event! Ride Safe those that come to Daytona, and I hope to meet up with you at some point.

Boy, 450+ miles is a lot when you have to do two days in a row. With gas stops, eating, etc. it could become a grueling day. I guess I could do one day but prefer not to. I love the "crusing" part and want it to be fun, ie: stop when you see something neat or just enjoy a scenic view. You might find yourself dreading the ride home. Can you take more time? Or, dare I say it, trailer?

I'll be in Daytona the 6th-9th and I'm riding with 3 Harleys. Don't have a clue what exactly when and what we'll be doing, but I'll definitely be looking out for Triumphs. I'll probably speak to everyone I can. Maybe I'll run into some of you guys.

No! 450 miles a day is not too much. 450 is on the border between being a mellow ride and being a moderately tough ride. Given the travel day holds no rain and you keep the spirits at bay each night!
For comparison purposes: Us Florida boys ride up to Chy & Di's place in two days. Mind you, the ride is only 550 for me (not as the bird flies, but as the back-roads lead). 550 miles on back-roads is a sunup to sundown ride. Stopping for lunch and stopping every hundred miles to stretch the legs (and fuel up). We stop in Commerce for the night as our reservations are not till the next night in the gold town. Commerce is a pleasant ride away, on the ever so twisty GA 52, into Dahlonega! No matter the spirits consumed in Commerce, the roll on 52 plants an ear to ear smile on the ole kisser. Phil (bonnyusa) rides up from the land of punks taking baseball bats to homeless people and stays the night with Lynn and I. The next morn we ride up to Ryan's and from there, we ride north to GA on the slab, then ride Georgia route 15 to Commerce.
450 miles is doable! Get your mind right, take advantage of every minute of daylight and you can ride on back roads with plenty of light to spare. Two days should be two days. Don't ride jewels to the wall on the slab. Ride laid back, on rural roads, roads that generally can be ridden 65+mph. Rolling down from OH as you are, 65 or less really helps keep the extremities from freezing!
Route suggestion: Roll down US25 to Augusta, GA. About 500 miles-Day one. Day two-about 400 miles would be US25 to Jesup, GA where US301 would be the road down to US1 at Homeland, GA. US1 to I-295 to I-95 south to Daytona.
PS: Two day ride. Lot’s of times, Lynn and I will depart in the evening the day before our scheduled ride, or at least well after noon. That gives us a time buffer and only cost us a hotel room and supper out. Maybe you could depart at T-minus 2.5 days and get 150 to 200 miles under your belt. Ride 450 the next day then the third day have a real easy roll into the sea of hardeys?

If this ride to Daytona seems a bit much for you, go to the GA Rally. More fun to be had there anyway. That is a real Bike Rally. Not the ride 5 minutes and park for 5 hours Harley fest in Daytona!

Moe, good advice. 2.5 day trip might be the trick. It's a matter now of my riding buddy(does that sound weird?) and I talking each other into it!

Well, I got the nod for the weekend (from both bosses! ). My plans right now are to leave here before noon on the 10th, find a place up there and leave late Sunday. If you all want to get together Friday night, let's set a meeting place! I would like for as many of us as can to get together on Saturday as early as possible. I figure we can get over to the Triumph truck, see the sites, ride the Loop, and definitely eat!! I hope you all want to meet each other, right? How better than doing the above! Keep the 11th free guys!!Ryan, as our local liason, we need some times and places for events. That's right bro, you are the event coordinator!! We got time so let's make some plans.....

We got time so let's make some plans.....Man, I can't plan that far ahead!! I'm having trouble with what I'll be doing tomorrow Anyway, with the Ga. Rally and Daytona being so close to each other time wise, I might make one but not the other. I usually hit Daytona for Bike Week and Biketoberfest as it's only about a 2 hour cruise from my house, but the Ga. Rally really sounds like fun and I'm maybe swaying that way instead. Bike Week has become way overblown IMHO.. thousands of posers who spent way too much money and just want to play the 'mines more expensive than yours' game. But the zoo atmosphere is a blast to watch as you drop a couple of cold ones listening to live music. As for the Ga. Rally, does anyone think that the Econolodge will fill up? Would like to just get the room when (if) I get up there instead of making reservations that I might have to turn around and cancel later. Hmm, I guess this would be better asked in the 'Ga Rally' thread.. never mind Cheers, Brad

Brad, Daytona is in March and the GA Rally is two months later! Two hours? Shoot, you could ride over just for Saturday.... btw, most hotels have a 48 hour cancellation policy. I would recommend booking a room now.

Daytona is in March and the GA Rally is two months later!Yeah, yeah.. tell that to the wife A once a year 'get out with the boys biker event' is acceptable.. twice a year I can get by with, if I spread them out far enough. Twice in two months might be pushing it . Cheers, Brad

Guys, I think the due date for little Ryan is the 10th. That is going to severly limit my available time on that weekend. I should have a better idea after the next Drs. appt. on 2/7. However, I will do my best to see you guys as much as possible. The hospital is in Ormond, so my initial thoughts are a return to Snack Jack's. There are some other really great places around, but I need to think a little on what I can and cannot do. I may be in a cage with 3 year old too!

For the past two years they have been located on Midway Ave. across the street from the Hilton Garden Inn. For you race track folks, that is outside turn 4 adjacent to the spot where Dale Earnhardt was killed.

Thanks Ryan. I am thinking a plan might go like this: - Meet at the truck at 9am and do demo rides, look around, etc. - Ride up to and do the Loop - By that time, it's probably close to noon so go over to Snack Jack on the beach for lunch - Take another ride - See what's happening around town.... (btw, I have no desire to go downtown) Who's staying where? Anyone need a roommate? If not, I am probably going to have to stay at the Volusia County Fairgrounds. They have camping there.

Thanks Phil/Ryan, I'll be staying at the Super 8 Motel right next to the Speedway. That will make it easy to drag my Harley friends, or not, to the Triumph truck.

It will be interesting to see the effect that the new Harley world has on the downtown scene.
I am with you Phil. Avoid that at all costs. I do enjoy the Cabbage Patch on non-cabbage wrestling days.
Triumph will also be sponsoring a ride to St. Augustine, but I forget which day.?
Here are the best combinations of Snack Jack type food and atmosphere in the Daytona area (just my opinion).
Boondocks in Wilbur by the Sea (between South Daytona and Ponce Inlet)
The Deck Down Under in Port Orange
Snack Jack in Flagler
JB's Fish Camp in New Smryna
The Brickyard on International Speedway Blvd.
Sly Fox Inn on Hwy 1 in Port Orange (site of Triumph party)
Guisseppes Steel City Pizza - Nova Road Port Orange
South Turn Grill - Clyde Morris in Daytona
Inlet Harbor - Ponce Inlet
I am sure there are others.

Phil,
We plan on sitting up camp at the Volusia Fair Grounds. If Joe's Garage brings everything, then we should have accommodations for at least 8 bikes at "Limeyland" in the ABATE area. Just not sure which day we are heading up. I get back home from a 12 day business trip on March 3th, so the earliest will be on the 5th, but more likely the 6th or even 7th.

Phil,
We always have plenty of room. Last year we started with 3 of us and ended up with around 6. At one point we had approximately 40' X 80' area that we called home. Joe's Garage plans on bringing 4 or 5 of his bikes, so basically Joe is bringing his whole Garage, which will give us lots of space.

I will be there!!
Is the antique bike show and sale on Saturday (11th) over at Stetson? That was awesome last year. Maybe after lunch we can all go over there?
How about this for a revised plan:
- Meet at the truck at 9am and do demo rides, look around, etc. - Ride up to and do the Loop - By that time, it's probably close to noon so go over to Snack Jack on the beach for lunch - Ride out 100 to CR 11, down to DeLand to the bike show? - See what's happening around town....
