I am considering putting a topbox on my speedmaster for the added security and general work trips. currently have the sissy bar and rack installed and will remove the sissy bar and attach the box to the rack. trouble is will this look NAFF! have been searching the internet ( google images etc) and cant find a picture of anyone else who has done this. which makes me think that it will not look the best. anyone got a photo of a speedmaster with a topbox?

Givi makes a nice topbox. Check 'em out here. Also, Stewart (roundy77) had some topboxs for sale here in the Vendors section. Maybe he still has some left. Have a look here.

re the alphacustombikes box . have seen these on ebay and was happy with the price ie half the price of a Givi or Kappa, what do you think of the quality? had considered getting one of these and also respraying it to match the bike. post a picture if you can when you have it all fitted as would be very interested in seeing it.

I was well impressed with the quality of this box for the money,Only problem is..the backrest material is brown(Being recovered black)and the mounting holes need to be moved, Will post pics when fitted. These boxes are end of line(discontinued)so if you want one check on Alphas website

NAFF, I believe is from a secret language, called "Polari", used by Gay people in the olden days. i.e. 50s/60s. It meant Not available for f***ing. But was also used as a general derogatory term and became popular in England in the 70s as a mild expletive. Princess Anne famously told some reporters to "Naff off" when they were bothering her.

Naff The Polari word naff, meaning inferior or tacky, has an uncertain etymology. Michael Quinion states that it is probably from the 16th-century Italian word gnaffa, meaning "a despicable person".[12] There are a number of folk etymologies, many based on acronyms – Not Available For ******, Normal As ****** – though these are backronyms. More likely etymologies include northern UK dialect naffhead, naffin, or naffy, a simpleton or blockhead; niffy-naffy, inconsequential, stupid, or Scots nyaff, a term of contempt for any unpleasant or objectionable person. An alternative etymology may lie in the Romany naflo, itself rooted in násfalo, meaning ill. The phrase "naff off" was used euphemistically in place of "****** off" along with the intensifier "naffing" in Billy Liar by Keith Waterhouse (1959).[13] Usage of "naff" increased in the 1970s when television sitcom Porridge employed it as an alternative to expletives which were not considered broadcastable at the time. In 1982 Princess Anne was reported as telling news photographers to "naff off!" after falling from her horse at the Badminton Horse Trials, although possibly this was self-censorship by the reporters and she actually used "****** off!".[12][14] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polari#NaffI've got BOLLOX on one bike... hmmm...

can we get back on topic please.. still only 1 reply with a photo of topbox ( good pictures re the trip but too dark really to see how well it looks) am considering the GIVI E470 with coloured lid so as to have black and dark red topbox to blend in with the black on the Speedmaster. Looks good in my "mindseye" but will cost £160 which is a lot if it looks crap ( I take you all know what I mean by that!)

I used stock triumph parts from an older sprint or trophy, or tiger. just had to add brackets to the top box to get it to fit the america rack. I did have to cut down the side bags and use plywood as the back of the box.

I bought this one from JCWhitney, also available at Sears online. A topbox is great, you won't know how you managed to live without it. I don't think it looks Naff, but I prefer function over frosting anyway.
