My boy was hit by a car while riding his 675 Daytona on Sunday. He just left his house and was riding down the street that he lives on. He lives in town with most of the residents having only on street parking available to them. He was riding down the street going 20-25 mph when a lady that was at a stop sign at a street that crosses over the street that he was on pulled out not seeing my son on his bike. He tried to swerve out of the way but still got hit broadside. He was thrown from his bike, luckily he had gloves on and he always wears a helmet. It was too hot to be wearing a jacket but he actually fared pretty well considering the circumstances. He has road rash on his arm and side and bruised his ankle, heal and leg. He was transported by ambulance to the hospital. They cleaned up his wounds did some X-Rays and sent him on his way. Now to his bike, I am thinking that it will be totaled. There is a hole punched thru the head the plastic is all trashed, the front brakes are screwed up, brackets for foot pegs front and back are broken and I am sure there are other damages that I am not seeing. The main thing is that he is OK. He is anxious to get back on a bike again and he plans on getting another Triumph once everything is settled. When I got the call I was pretty concerned but couldn't do anything as I had my other sons front end of his car all torn apart at a friends garage. I felt useless but again it all worked out, not a call that any parent would want to receive.

Wow Ron. Sorry to hear this, but glad to hear he's in reasonably good shape considering. And yep, from the sounds of it, I have to say what a shame it is that such a great bike like his 675 Daytona will most likely be totaled. (btw...tell him to get well soon from all your friends around here at BA.com who ride these "Geezerbikes", will ya?!)
Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

I'm glad to hear he'll be OK. You're right, that's not a call any parent wants to receive.

Glad to hear he walked away with not much more than road rash, and a trashed bike. Stinks no matter how you slice it, but still better than the alternative.

Wow Ron, The "sometimes realities" of motorbiking Glad to hear your son should be fine. Reminds me of 13 months ago when the Good Friar relates a tale of a patient sitting up in the ER and saying "Call my mom, but tell her I'm fine". He said if the patient did it one more time he was going to dope slap him . I contend it's all hearsay. The point that's a call no family member want to receive or be the cause of. Then again, I have caught myself a time or two about to pull out in front of a passing motorbike. Talk about feeling like a complete idiot safe folks, enjoy jh

Wow man... sorry to hear about the accident. And very glad your son is alright.
Not to be a jerk or anything, but as to the "too hot to wear a jacket" thing: try a mesh jacket. I wear one in the summer and it's great. Not quite as comfortable as going without, but pretty close. The air flows right through it. Just a thought.

My heart missed a beat when I read the title. Your lad is ok - that is number 1. The bike can be fixed or another obtained. I'm pleased he got off with only minor injuries. My son had a similar experience – double compound fracture lower leg from the A pillar as he went over the roof/bonnet. Right before major exams (which he bombed). The driver was a retired Nun. She didn’t say sorry. Go figure that.

Wow! that is a good accident. There are other bikes but only one son.
I try to aggravate one person a day. Today may be your day.

After recently going down myself and going through the ambulance ride, xrays, etc. I can really relate. I am so glad he is ok. Once again I have to state how important that safety gear is. I know it saved me and now I see it helped someone else.
Please tell him my thoughts are with him and to hang in there.

That sucks. I'm glad you son is okay. I may think twice about letting my 19 year old son take the MSF course in Septmeber and get a bike.

Yea it is and was scary when I got that phone call. I don't wish it on any parent. Thanks for the encouraging words from everyone. I will pass on the words to my son as well. He is still hobbling around and nursing his wounds but all will be good! Thanks again, Ron

Anyone who admits they can't see an object roughly 3 ft wide by maybe 6 feet tall with a big bright light in the middle of it should be considered unable to see well enough to drive.

Im sorry to hear that.I think I remeber the post where you talked about going to buy it with him.I am glad to hear he is well and anxious to ride again. It sucks when someone gets scared from riding after a wreck, understandable but still a shame to give up something so loved.
