I just recently bought a '97 Chevy S10 pickup.
Of the 5 tyres, this thing has 4 different sizes!!!

1 x 215x75
1 x 225x70
1 x 235x75
2 x 225x75
Anyone out there know what they SHOULD be??!!
I've done a Google search but couldn't find them in any tech spec - I have a Haynes manual for it but I s'pose I need a user manual for that sort of info.

On the drive home from buying it, one of the tyres decided to morph into a banana shape and try and stuff me into the central Armco on the motorway so I need some new tyres (underwear is fine).

My speedo is reading wrong (going faster than speedo says) so I'm thinking it might be they should be 70s rather than 75s (or have I got that the wrong way round?!?!).

Thanks

Depending on which particular version you have, either 4 cyl or v6 or 2wd or 4wd they seem to have different tyre sizes, but the following site should help you

http://autos.msn.com/research/vip/spec_E...p&trimid=-1

I hope that helps

It may be gone or worn but there is a sticker on the door that tells you too. If not on the door then on the area where the striker for the door is. They often get worn so might not be readable.

The best of it, none of the tyres on there match the spec
Should be 205x75x15

I looked on tirerack.com and they listed either the 205/75-15 or the 215/65-15 as applicable. The latter will be a little shorter but wider. You'll have to check the rim size to see if it's compatible.

Sounds like you're getting it sorted Mr. FT. Not to be a compleat smart Alec or Alek, but you do live in the northern Hemisphere? It's a little known fact, but vehicles in the north require slightly more "tread" on the port side, whilst the reverse is true south of the equator

We all like to think of ourselves as rugged individualists. But when push comes to shove most of us are sheep who do what we are told. Worst of all, a lot of us become unpaid agents of whoever is controlling the agenda by enforcing the current dogma on the few rugged individualists who actually exist.

That sounds about like my Shelby Dakota when I got it. Add to that two of the original five spoke rims were gone and replaced by plain old steelies.

I'm trying to picture what a tire that morphed into a banana shape might look like but just can't get the image in my head.

It's a '97 S-10. I'd find the one with the best tread and get 3 more like it. Just sayin'

Soooo FT, ya wanna know MY suggestion here, ol' buddy???

Welllll, I say SCREW all this talk of "tyres" and just go THIS ROUTE instead, dude....

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wtf1OGz98HE&feature=player_embedded#!

(btw...if you decide to ignore my above suggestion, WHATEVER you do, do NOT put tyres on that baby because that S-10 o' yours is an American product, and so you COULD be settin' yourself up for further heartache by means of another form of "mismatching" here IF you go ahead and mount tyres on that sucker and NOT tires...just a word to the wise here, you understand)

Unless you're planning on towing and have a 4/5 speed, stuff the tallest tire you can under there. With that motor, the larger mass won't be an issue and you'll increase your MPG slightly. Besides, these things look better with the wheelwells filled in a bit. If I recall, your speedo will be about 10% low (with a similar reduction on the odometer).

If you've got a standard trans and plan on towing, stick with stock. Even the V6 with the standard tranny will barely pull the proverbial greasy string from the cat's ___.

My thought too.
The pair of 225x75s on the back are pretty good.
I'll probably drop them on the front and have nice new ones on the back.

Was it used for flat track racing? That would explain the tire sizes.

You might want to check the differentials. Most don't like different size tires on opposing ends.

Well , I was faced with a simular delima on a 1982 Chevy 3/4 ton pick-up truck once.......picked the tire on the truck with the most tread left and went with that size....
