My new 812s (HD springs) are VERY squeaky. They sound like the bedsprings in a teen sex comedy.

I'm happy to lube them, but I've never lubed a shock before. What do I use, and where does it go?

When I've installed new shocks, I've just put a dab of grease (white lithium IIRC) onto the posts and then onto the rubber bushings partly to also ease installation.
