As far as the commute to work goes, I draw the line at 40 degrees or colder. Yesterday, another line was drawn. After an hour of saddle time in 100 degree heat, I felt like a roasted peanut. THe heat coming off the hwy zaps the life out of me. Guess I'll wait until the heatwave is over.

Wow Eddie, that sounds TERRIBLE!!!
Yep, and not only THAT, but I hope you know you could have possibly come down with a very bad case of HEAT STROKE too, which could have made you feel really REALLY sick!!!
Uh huh...TRUE!!!
And then by the time you got to work you could have looked just like THIS.... . . . . . . . . . .

I agree, it's tough to do when it's that hot out. After this week of riding to work I was exhausted. It was great in the mid 70's mornings, but the humid high 90's afternoons were killer.

There is actually a HOG rally going on here in Hot Springs. A biker told me that only 1300 bikers registered this year. It's usually three to four times that much. I'm sure Mondays paper will have an article with all the info. The biker blames the economy and 100 plus heat.

Yeah Mike! Back before I retired I often found that to be the case TOO!
(...though in my case I'm not sure it had anything to do with either the weather OR my choice of transportation)

***UPDATE*** Wreck in front of my store. Why would a biker with a passenger try to pop a wheelie 40 feet from a stop light? They rear-ended an SUV and the wife (girlfriend?) was pinned under it. I heard the squeeling tires and crash. No helmets. They are being carted off in a ambualnce. One of the reasons why I don't go to rallies.

Wow Eddie, that's TERRIBLE.....again!
Hey wait, I think that very incident was just reported over my TV!
Yeah, they said the owner of that SUV has just sent the very best mechanic he knew to go take a look at the damage to the underside of that SUV right there on the street, and the news station I'm watchin' took a picture of it...

(btw...the reporter said that all the mechanic said to him when he saw what was left of the motorcycle was..."Me-OW! That me-otorcyclist me-ust be one big ME-ORON, alright!")

I'm with Eddie, when we rode to Fl on Sat. it was 105º and then on Sat. 108º with heat index of 125º. It was like riding with a torpedo heater in your face. Glad my bag has a drink holder just to my right so I could carry a drink. At least on Sun. All I did was ride to Va. beach and body surf all day. Not sure of what the temps were from there on but it was very hot the whole way down to Fl. Then coming back it was in the upper 50s and low 60s so I felt very cold.

I rode through some very heavy rain and in that heat I was dry again in about 5 miles.

every 50 miles, soak your shirt with water. Either by taking it off, thoroughly wetting it, wring it, put it back on. or using a bottle of water while pressing your shirt against you, pour water along your collar line.
why 50 miles? that's about the evaporation time. go tank to tank and what was once water is now sweat...
the georgia welcome station on 301 at the SC border gives free soda fountain colas...don't wet your shirt with those!

hahaha dog. this is wierd but i was thinking of you Saturday. Being about 15 miles from the SC border on 301 in GA, a light to medium rain started. already had about 70 miles on my once wet now dry t shirt, i rode with thanks in the rain. instant ac once again, this time with legs included. Rain is good, especially when the rain is off a ways and ya get the benefit of cooler breezes and shade. Textile jacket + summer riding + water soaks = cooler riding

I keep thinking about installing a rear facing mist generator (squirt bottle?) on the handlebars for just that reason.
