I was taking my 8 year old daughter for a ride yesterday and after passing another bike she asked me "why did that man on the motorcycle point at the yellow line?" She of course was referring to the biker wave.

When did the motorcycle wave stop becoming a wave and just a point at the ground or a nod of the head?

Yea but the wife is jealous. Due to having young children at home, my daughter gets to go for a ride more than my wife.

I'm really beginning to wonder if it is me they want to spend time with or my bike.

Its the bike. Believe me, I know

And when shes older, potential boyfriends will be introduced to the bike, and if they don't make appreciative noises, then they've got no hope.

After being introduced to the bike, the potential boyfriend might get introduced to you, and he'll talk about how nice the bike looks etc, and you wont realise that there is more than just a friendship in the future, until a few weeks later your daughter has that little chat with you outside a pub you want to go into as its got all the other rally goers in there and its raining because its Dent

Glad I read this before posting. The little chat is NOT about impending grandfatherhood for you, she just wants to make sure you're cool about her seeing that boy

You do suddenly realise your little baby has grown up, which means you're old

I'd sooner have her introduce boys to her bike than be introduced to a boy's bike. The thought of her driving a bike just doesn't seem as scary as her being a passenger on on the back of a bike driven by some testosterone fulled boy.

btw, your little chat seemed to be very recently rehearsed. I guess you are old too..

After you've met a hundred or so bikes on any given weekend ride .

It's either just ride around with one hand pointed down the whole

time or just stick out a finger .

( not THAT finger , silly , the one next to the THUMB )

I live in NH and let me tell you on a nice day there is a ton of bikes out so I feel the same. After waving a few times I get pretty sick of it. I only wave if someone waves at me first. Even then I'm waving every 2 minutes. Annoying.

Please google "road rash girl", and show the results to
any of your girls that think it would be cool to go for
a ride on the back of some moron's rice rocket.

My thoughts exactly, plus the fact that they've been on the back of our bikes will also help them realise how stupid some things people do when showing off on a bike really are

Yes, the little chat was a week last saturday, and as for oldness, I'm halfway to my 86th birthday

As much as I love bikes and riding, and taking my girls, you're absolutely right. Excellant primer for a dating daughter to see!
