04 Speedmaster has a 110/80-18 front tire, and a 170/80-15 rear. Not much out there in matching sets. question is what do you think about going to a 100/90-18 on the front. narrower, and taller tire. looks to be enough clearance. my thought was that it may quicken the stearing???? will stay the same on rear.

I'm also looking at getting new tires for my 05 America. I went to the dealer Friday and looked at the new models. They've kept the same rear size but have gone to a 110/90 18 for the front. Mine also originally came with 110/80 18 and I figure the larger one would fit on mine as well. Basically same size tire just a hair taller. It might also make my speedo more accurate.
I'm not sure why Triumph changed sizes even though they stayed with the same model (880/Lasertec) tires. I'd also love to hear comments on pros and cons of going to the larger tire.

The only 110/80-18 I ever run on the front was the stock tire. I've always run Avon Venoms since, and have run 100/90-18s, 120/90-18s (with modded fender bracket) and currently 130/70-18s. I like the current tire the best.

John, I would assume that the 110/90 would not require any mod to an older model. Is that correct?

Isn't that the stock size? Or was stock 80 series? I'm assuming it would be fine. The 120/90 almost fits, but at speed as the tire expands it rubs on the fender bracket. Check the specs and compare tire diameters.

The Speedmasters run (ran?) the 110/80B18's, and the America's run the 110/90B18's. But the America tire will clear and fit under the Speedmasters "shorty" front fender. I think the lower profile "80" series tire better suites the Speedmaster's intended purpose, while the taller "90" series tire better suites the America's more laid back, cruising style. If the Speedy came with an "90" series tire, I would have to think the dealer had done some wheel swappin' or somehow mixed them up. Was it on a stock Speedmaster wheel?

My 05 America came with a 110/80 but I believe both the current new Americas and Speedmasters now have 110/90 Lasertechs on them. Why would the taller tire better suite a cruising style? Is there an advantage to the taller tire?
I checked the Triumph spec page online and found that the America now comes with 110/90 and the Speedmaster has 110/80 (as original). Why would they change the size of the America?

Well, that's EASY to answer, Bob! It's in order to allow the Americas to stand just a little taller and thus give 'em even MORE of a "superior presence" than they already enjoy over the Speedies! THAT'S why!!!
(okay, actually I don't know...but I couldn't resist sayin' that!)
Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)
