I have been reading about some of the success that others were having with an Acewell speedo and remoting it to the center console. Now that I am starting to think about doing this mod, I can't seem to find any more references to actually acquiring the product that would work. The one site that was referenced in earlier posts seems to have removed this Acewell Speedo from their site.
Anyone have any good pointers to a small Speedo that will fit into the center console? Ideally, I am looking for something old-school and has a trip odometer reset that can be done remotely (since the speedo would be inside the console)...I don't ride this bike enough to remember pure mileage so the trip odometer is my gas guage.
Any other thoughts are greatly appreciated.
Cheers, Steven

Got to eyeball Mountainman's Acewell-in-dash last week. Very nice. Very slick. I'm sure he'll chime in...

Hey Steven... I have the Acewell ACE-2853 installed in dash and LOVE it!! I bought mine from electrosport.com but having gone there as a result of your post... I see no Acewell products whatsoever. Hmmmm.... so I sent them an email to try and find out what's going on. Meanwhile I can't seem to find a N. America dealer of the Acewell product line. I'm not sure what's going on but my question is... "Acewell, where are you?" I remember at the time I was researching small round speedos for my dash, there were many to chose from. Many ideas and products were presented in this thread. Now, some of the stuff that others suggested in that thread looked terrific, but I ended up with the Acewell because it was the most affordable without compromise to functionality (i.e. tripometer) and form. It would be good to get the scoop on Acewell and/or their distributorship status. Meanwhile research alternatives... they are out there but maybe just not as inexpensive.

I would like something a little more retro (speedo), in fact it's a shame custom center consoles with more options and in non reflective black aren't available.

Okay Steven... I have some more information about those Acewell speedos. Electrosport is not longer the distributor for Acewell. A company called Baja Designs carries them now. Check them out here. But... and this is a BIG BUT (but not a big butt) did ya see their prices? They want $100 MORE than I paid for mine (the 2853). At $249 you might as well go looking elsewhere for a similar product. Too bad really... the Acewell is a GREAT instrument, I just love it!! But ya know...even at $249 you get a lot... - Bar graphic speed meter - Digital Tachometer & Warning - Speed Meter - 2 Trip Meters - Odometer - Maximum Speed - Average Speed - 12/24 Hour Clock - Riding Timer - Total Riding Timer I find it VERY readable in any light, it seems to be bullet proof and it's easy to use.

I did see them and I DID notice the pricing. I seem to remember that the other distributor had choices related to the number of lights and what they would indicate. Since I am going minimalist for this bike, I don't really need all of the lights...plus they are redundant until I figure out what I am going to do with the dash.
Right now, I am looking at a VERY simple speedo with odometer and also looking at some of the Motogadget products....
Thanks for the pointers...keep them coming. I'll soon get to a decision on what I am doing and will try to keep the group informed.
Steven

That thing is ugly. Who needs a speedo any way?

Well, I've made my decision and started down the path to the changes. I have ordered a Koso Mini Speedometer and will be installing it as soon as it arrives. Full credit to Mountainman. As far as I can tell, he was the first (maybe only) person to go this route. This thread has more info on what he (and some others) did. This speedo has the basic features that I wanted for the bike: Small and will fit in the console, odometer, trip meter with remote button (instead of a dial on the side). I found a nice button that I will be installing in the console. Since I no longer have turn signals, I am going to be mounting the button in place of the signal indicator light. One challenge with this approach is that it appears that I am going to have to cannibalize my Tach for the bezel, cup and mounting. Not ideal, but since I want a VERY clean setup, that is the route I plan to take. I have already removed my speedometer and sealed up the cable mount at the front wheel. I also redid my wiring a few nights ago and ran the controls wiring through the handlebars. Although I don't have the speedo yet, the set up is much improved and cleaner. Lastly, since these threads are "worthless without photos", here is the progress so far. The end result will essentially look just like this, but instead of the Tach in the console, a very similar looking Speedo will be there. Cheers, Steven

I put a Dakota Digital in mine back in 2005. Stills works perfectly. http://www.bonnevilleamerica.com/forums/...rt=all&vc=1

Well Steven, the pic of you bike does give us a great indication of what it'll look like when completed. I have to say "Tidy" is the first word that springs to mind.
Love the minimalist look myself and whilst I couldn't go that exact route due to practicality reasons (ie long rides need certain non- minimalistic extras),what you've decided for yours is shaping up very nicely if I do say myself.
Looking forward to seeing some close up pics of the end result but altogether your well and truly on track.
I also intend on internalising my wiring and putting an after market speedo / tacho on my speedy but somewhat different but whatever, I appreciate seeing the fruits of ones labour whatever form it takes. To me I don't have the need to want the same for my bike to not appreciate someone elses.
I agree also regarding your comment on Mountainman and his pioneering a console mounted speedo etc, in fact since his first post I haven't stopped thinking about my own project.
Good stuff
