I am in the process of further refining my '03 America (see my other post from July 25, 2010). One of the items that I want to address is the hand controls. Since I am in process of simplifying this bike, I am trying to get some ideas about very simple (and good looking) hand controls...
My initial thought is that I want good, old-school hand controls for throttle, clutch, brake. I don't need turn signal controls, I probably still want a horn button somewhere, I could live without high/low beam control, could remote my starter button under my seat, probably don't need a kill switch.
Any thoughts/pointers to controls that will work with this bike and begin to meet my needs?
As always, I greatly appreciate this forum...I have learned so much about this bike through this community and would not have been able to get as far as I have with my America without this site.
Cheers, Steven

A few folks have adapted HD controls and at least used a set of Joker controls. If you can read a wire schematic and solder, you should be good. I'm surprised we just don't seem to change out these ugly control mounts. Quote:

If we're talking "exile cycles" clean...I think the front brake resivoir is the challenge cause it dont matter how much stuff you move, and eliminate from the bars, if you got that thing on the bars its still cluttered. Its the only thing keeping me from wanting internal throttle and clutch setups.

Steven, I can see where you're going with all of this... cleaning things up, making it simple!!! I love your ideas and making those handlebar clean and clear of clutter is just so... so tasteful. I'm with you on this one bro! It's K.I.S.S. all over again!!!

This pic is what I was talking about...You can do anything you want to "simplify" but at the end of the day you still have this huge brake fluid resivoir and you get nowhere Then its more about getting something that isnt stock. This is how It should be...

And of course that DOES look super clean, but... where's the clutch control, the front brake grip, the horn button, the signal switch, the throttle sleeve? I can see hiding wires but the all important cables go, where? Or can things be run by servos under remote control (would still need some sort of input device near the hands)? I'm thinkin' yeah... that part of the bike CAN be cleaned up a lot but not totally naked like the handlebars on a child's tricycle.

The handgrips twist for gas/front brake and clutch. I guess you get used to that Quote:

haha...its probably a pain in the ace. Ya know theres nothing wrong with clutch and brake levers on bars. In a perfect balance I'd love to have these levers with just simple blinker switch and screw the horn. (and inspection)

Yikes - $1,899! They are super trick no doubt, patented design. You won't see these babies on every bike at the show... Here's the Joker Machine controls I mentioned earlier. They are about $400: http://www.jokermachine.com/itemstreet2004.asp?ItemID=39&CategoryID=5&Placeholder=0This guy had them mounted on his pretty trick America w/nitrous. VA guy. Saw him at the 2005 Leesburg show, never since. He was on here for a short while, something-wolf in the screenname. Say, just noticed that is one good looking America beside that bike.....<g> Quote:

Those Joker ones are nice and all but its really not much different than stock. Theyre just chrome...They could practically come stock on a harley.
