I am excited so figured I would share my good fortune. As of today I am the new service manager of my shop.
I learned all I need to know about life by killing smart people and eating their brains.

That makes me 2nd in command of my department, and no all I get is 80 cents more. Thing is I also get a pension and a few other fringe benefits.

Thank you all and those who post after my thanx, thank you too. When I get back from my vacation I start right in learning the new position. I have to learn some computer tasks that I don't know now.

A couple of decades ago, some of my co-workers blasted me for taking a foreman's position that only paid 50 cents an hour more, saying they wouldn't want the added responsibilities for $20 a week.
I told them I would have taken the position even if there were no additional pay.
I told them "I'm so sick and tired of listening to the a-hole, I want to BE the a-hole!
(and I've been an a-hole ever since!)

Good to hear Ian...especially now-a-days with employment. 80 cents dont matter in the long run cause you'll have that manager title in the future should you decide to work somewhere different.

Not me....was demoted to basic mechanic back in September, after being a maintenance supervisor for over 12 years..Best move I've ever made!!! The idiots that are supervisors now, really have no clue, and don't care at all about the aircraft. All my supervisor wants me to do is to make sure my airplane is on APU power with the right air conditioning pack on full cold, so he can get his 3 hour nap....UN believable....

Naah Gordie. I don't think Ian is gonna be one of THOSE kind of Management Types. You see, I'm sure Ian has many many years of experience and knowledge working in that field, and so I'm sure he'll know what he's talking about and make wise and thoughtful choices whenever he'll have to make any of those managerial decisions he'll be called upon to make now and then!

It's the Dickson City Wal Mart Tire and Lube Express.
I didn't think I would get the position, one guy up for it used to be the service manager a few years ago and went to a different job. Couple others had been there longer than me. Thing is I follow the procedures they want and know more about my job than anyone there. I am also the guy everyone comes to when they don't know something or need help with something. I am also the guy teaching new guys what to do. Our best techs are the ones I trained so I guess management sees all that.
