Hi,

Has anyone shipped a parcel to an America UPS location for pickup and then drove to the US and picked it up their selves? Is a UPS post box required or is it possible to simple state on the delivery slip that it is to be picked up?

Thanks,

(I want to pick up some 812's but they only ship UPS and UPS will add $100 in brokerage and other fees)

If ya order from Fasteddy he'll send them USPS which converts to Canada Post for you.

Ya, but Fasteddy charges $375 and there is an ebay dealer selling them form $175 (see thread in the Technical Talk >> Miscellaneous forum). Plus there are other dealers that will either only ship to the US or use UPS exclusively that I may want to deal with in the future.

I just found a thread on a local forum and apparently all I have to do is have the parcel delivered to a UPS store (ogdensburg for me) with my name on it. There is a $5/week/parcel holding charge as well as a $5/parcel charge. If I pick it up the day it comes in it will cost $5.

Local forum if anyone is interested.

I am close to Sumas, Washington, and get my packages sent to a place called Ship Happens. I pay a flat $5 fee for the parcel, and then I declare it at Canadian Customs on the way back, and pay HST. It works out GREAT if you can do this.

Regarding the use of the UPS store, I have no experience with that.

With a lot of US vendors not charging for shipping, and the high dollar, you save a bundle doing this.

In Ottawa. Ogdensburg, NY is less than an hour away AND it is a nice bike ride as well.

Have them shipped to a friend in the US, ride there and put them on, then ride home and declare nothing!

Always remember to be yourself. Unless you suck. Then pretend to be someone else.

i use a place in Point Roberts WA ,they charge based on size or weight ,usually a coupla bucks per package . may have to try the one Hyates uses tho . Hyates, do you have to register with them or anything . i had to for mine in Point Roberts.
just a wee tip if your picking up things from across the border.always have a receipt for those items and always have a few things sent ......... then you can declare one item and well you figure out the rest

Just got back from a trip to Ogdensburg, NY. Picked up a set of 812 shocks and some saddlebags (thanks missannies).

Very easy process. Switched my primary address on ebay to the Ogdensburg UPS and had packages shipped there addressed to me. No need to pre-arrange anything. The charge $5 per package plus $5/week after 10 days.

The only thing to keep in mind, bring your receipts for customs. I forgot. Luckily they were nice about it and allowed me to log in to my paypal to verify the prices.

Sorry, Celt. I missed this thread.

Yeah, I just emailed ShipHappens and gave them my name/address/phone number/ and email address. They will email you when the item comes in.

Yeah, ALWAYS have the receipt for the goods with you.
