DENT 2011
I know that over the last 3 years we have had some really bad weather on our way up to meet and of course at the meet. We have not been able to have ride outs because of the terrible weather.
With all that in mind and people saying that we should have a meet further down South, when I asked on the Saturday evening in the George & Dragon the majority of you said that we should carry on and that the rain etc was part and parcel of the meet.
We don’t seem to have any meets organised down south anymore, I think the last one I attended was organised by Neill (Echoance) at Buxton and unfortunately he had to sell his bike due to problems with his back.
When I say meets, I mean meets organised just for us from “Bonnevilleamerica.com†& “Triumph Cruisers†members
My point is do we carry on ???

For discussion at Mallory, but alot of people seem to be able to make early Sept, so how about, Dent July and a more southern meet early Sept??

If it makes any difference I'll go with Dent and one down south later on. Its got to be sunny one year.

Dent is a lovely spot for a rally, but it's 260 miles away from me!! Another venue, either down south or mabe somewhere in the midlands would suit me better.

For me the idea of riding 200/300 mile to a meet is one of the best parts, granted it would be better if it did not rain but the idea is you meet old friends and make new ones.

This was my 1st Dent meet and i have to say come rain or shine (more rain and less shine!) i had a fantastic time. What a beautiful place for a meet but what made it for me were the people what a fantastic bunch of guys'n'gals, nice to put faces to the names.....not so keen on that ale stuff though!

Not that it will affect me as I'm off fairly shortly but why not alternate the venue of the rally - much like the Euro rally and just call it the UK rally rather than Dent.

Nah.... that's Wales! Up till quite recently there's been not been that many down here. And there's the Concorde Rally to keep us happy - that's lots of work for me - so I do know what you go through Ray. Oh and the pool ref on Saturday said Nottingham is the North... and his word was final. Therefore I'm NOT A SOUTHERNER!

As this seems to be about whether to hold it in the north, south or middle, I think I'll quote my dad "You go in a strange pub on your own in the north and don't get talking to people, everyone thinks you're gay. You go in a strange pub on your own in the south and do start talking to people, everyone thinks you're gay. You go in a strange pub in the Midlands on your own, everyone thinks you're gay" So basically he was saying the natives up north are slightly friendlier. Of course, him coming from the northeast didn't bias his thinking whatsoever But I do know that the Dent locals recognised I was lost and told me where the campsite was without me even asking As for the weather, I reckon Geoff (GJS) ought to comment, as before the weekend he regarded himself as a fair weather rider, whereas now, he is a fully fledged scubabiker Oh, and the Dent beer is loverly, and there is some I've yet to try Two meets a year sounds a good compromise BTW, my 15 year old daughter didn't mind the rain, so a load of ruffty-tuffty bikers shouldn't

Traveller posted this on the other site and asked for it to be posted on here.
"Hi
I can't get on the other site from work and its too much hassle on the phone so I can only post here, but I agree with Paul the July meet should stay in Dent, the weather is part of the adventure of actually getting there and the ride in from the Bridge is always a highllight for me, so where else are we going to get a valley like that and there is still the beer
And then one somewhere south in early September, if there isn't enough gap between the two pull the Dent one forward to say May that gives us Farmyard in the middle.
As for how far South then I am open to suggestions from the people that know that area

well we do all have the Triumph birthday bash on the 18th at Mallory Race track, and if you book in advance you get a trip round the Hinckley factory and you can book to camp at Mallory. That would be good for us to get together again this year.

"As for the weather, I reckon Geoff (GJS) ought to comment, as before the weekend he regarded himself as a fair weather rider, whereas now, he is a fully fledged scubabiker " Well as I'm still wet behind the ears ( from dent ) in so far as meets Go . I think you would be hard pressed to find a place to be as good as dent is for a meet. The over all location is fantastic . The Area you are in has wonderful sights. The Camp-site has everything you need ,shop, food close by toilets etc. The local village is on the door step with two very good pubs for food and accommodation for those who want it. Very friendly locals, other camper's and the site management (even thou some moaned about the owner more in jest I felt ) The Beer for those (bonnie included I think that post earlier was from an imposter ! cause the bonnie I saw was a bit of fish and there was plenty of fish there.) would be hard to follow. But the main reason is the rides out. You can't do better than around that area. That's what I went for and got . If the weather was dry you couldn't get better ones I feel . I for one would have stayed the Sunday morning and gone for a ride out before heading home. I did find the weather hard to ride in but feel that it was well worth it. But I have only gone the once so may feel different after a few years. As for the south I do think you might find it hard to get the full package that is at dent ( look at the photos that I took which show the full package) Unless you go deeper south from me. But as I said, not that great on bike meetings and rides .So they might be some more out there somewhere. I shall go to dent again next year or where ever the meet is hopefully. But the weather who can say, when and where it will be fine. Just one thing I ask does anybody know where I can get a sound proof tent please. atb geoff

You don't need a sound proof tent Geoff, there are 2 easy answers: 1) Go to the Farmyard next year; you will never moan about the noise again!!!!!!!!! OR 2) Stop Chris from drinking as much!!!!! Personally I would go for option 1 as option 2 gives us our entertainment

I think the idea of Dent continuing and having another "southern" event a little later in the year seems to have some support. Here's a suggestion (not exactly deep south but more south than Dent LOL). Venue: Field next to this pub 1. 11 YEARS in the Good Beer Guide 2. Reg the landlord is a biker 3. Have motorcycle rallies several times a year there so knows what we need (see point 1) 4. No problem with having a bonfire (big as you like) 5. Will lay on a special menu (cheaper than normal) 7. Will lay on a special beer 8. Field will accommodate up to 80 and will be ours alone for the weekend 9. Tea / coffee making area open through the night 10. Toilets wil be kept open through the night I would be happy to arrange the event. It's not too far from my house so i could do a Ray and take a gazebo, BBQ etc for people to use. If there is enough interest i will kick off a new thread and start to sort details (dates in 2011, ride out etc). Wadda ya think? Yer Tis

Hey Mark thanks for this mate, I noticed a lot of people were harping on about a meet further down the country but not doing anything about it.
I think the venue looks brilliant and even though I may need my passport to get to it, I give it my up.
Get it sorted bro..........

Well the weather may play a part in the decision making process... Sunniest Weymouth, Dorset Wettest Seathwaite, Cumbria Driest St Osyth, Essex Warmest Scilly Isles Coldest Braemar, Scotland Stormiest Thetford to Stoke-on-Trent Windiest Cornwall/west coast Foggiest Dartmoor, Devon Most snow Tomintoul, Scotland My vote is for the Scilly Isles - I recon I would fit in well there I will ride in any weather to anywhere but seems like a great plan to have 2 (the more the merrier). Good beer, food and live music is a bonus. Will be doing Ullapool, Dent (or wherever), Triday and Switerland next year all being well Triumph Bash, RTTW and a sneekly little French weekender are planned for the remainer of this year.

Great idea Mark
The only downside for me is that it isn't far from my ex, and she might pop along for a nose if she finds out where it is, so free access to a shotgun would be nice
We would still do Dent aswell, wouldn't we?

Dent is 336 miles each way for me. On both occasions I've been a large percentage of those miles have been done in the rain, but hey-ho, that's part of it. I love it up there, and the roads and scenery in the surrounding area are second to none. So Ray, please keep up the sterling work, and keep putting this wonderful event on. I think Marks plans for another 'do' in September is an excellent idea, and the venue looks great. Go for it. An added bonus of having one down south, we might be able to get a pint of beer without 2 inches of head on it!!!! Glenn

Hi to all DENT in May far better weather!! Think July is usually the worst month in this neck of the woods. Open to any other ideas. The Sept meet sounds a good idea.
Here an advert for the "official Triumph" dealer in Carlisle. Will not bore ya too much but my America was left for a cylinder head replacement 7th July. (Dont ask, see my previous comments, plenty of time for Dent!!! Me thought for fecks sake) And here we are 12th August and still not fixed. Rang and was told that yes we have the part the bike is in bits and we will be in touch! (Sounded more like Go away and stop bothering us unless your buying a new bike) Is that a reord or can anyone else beat that for service? 5 weeks! They moaned that I wasnt usin them for a annual service!! Ha ha.....(local bike dealer courtesy bike filled up with fuel, one day fix, and loads cheaper, hmm hard choice) I would love to know how many Triumphs this place sells and a survey of customer care!.
Patience is a virtue but hand me a baseball bat.
