Well this is my first post here. I've lurked for a bit and checked out the newbie tech tips. Tomorrow I'm going to look at a 2003 Speedmaster. Is there anything I should know about this particular year/model? Any problems? I've perused both the owner's manual and the Haynes manual, so I know where stuff's at on the bike. I just want to see if there are certain things I should look for on it. If all goes well, I should be a Triumph owner in about 30 hours.
Thanks for your help.

Welcome and congratulations in advance!! What should you know, you ask? Well, SOMEONE'S got to tell you so it might as well be me. Okay... you'll become VERY irresponsible. Domestic chores will suffer because you'll be out riding all the time. At first it wont seem like a big deal but eventually your yard will look like a jungle, dishes will be stacked to the ceiling in your kitchen... your fridge will become a science project 'cause you haven't opened it in weeks, and you'll resort to buying new clothes rather than changing because your laundry hasn't been done since you got the bike. Other than that, ya got no worries!!!
Live to love, love to live.

I know what that's like. I've already got two '74 Honda CB750s. One is ridable and I'm rebuilding the other, which I think is going to be put on the back burner, for now anyway.

It's not all bad. Your typing skills will probably improve as you move from lurker to poster on this highly addictive site.

This is way more true than I am proud to admit.
I will also add that riding it to the gym is detremental to your workout. Long way there. Long way back. Skip a meal or two to ride again.

I can't think of anything to really look for, other than the obvious, i.e., chain & tires, any sign of oil leakage (that would be a surprise), see if the stock airbox is still intact, or note any other modifications. She is one sweet machine if sorted and rideable. Would be interested to hear your opinions after you've ridden her a while. She will respond best if you upshift at or about 5k rpms - these engines love to rev. She's a SPEEDMASTER. Ride her like you're in a hurry. She likes that.

Well I bought the bike on Friday. It was just too awesome.
It's black with the red infill and a sweet custom paint job on the fenders to match. She's got EPCO pipes, which are loud as heck, but the guy also threw in the original stock pipes. It's also got a nice Memphis Shades windshield that's easily removable, a light bar, Saddleman saddle bags, and a Corbin seat and pillion (with the stock seat thrown in too).
Performance wise it has the AI removed, UNI filter, and some baffling cut out in the airbox. He rejetted it too but didn't know the sizes.
I'll throw some pics up when I get a chance. But so far I've put about a hundred miles on it and have loved every bit of it.
The only problem with the bike is the speedometer. It reads about 10 times the actual speed. Meaning it's pegged out while still in first gear. I've read some stuff on here about that and I might have to take it apart and see what's wrong. The odometer and trip-meter still function fine, so it's not the cable or worm gear. I have a GPS based speedometer on my phone that I've been using in the mean time.
Overall, I love this bike.

Congratulations!!!
Yes, the speedometers on our bikes are about 10% optimistic, but the odometers are about dead on.
