Riding lately I have been having a lot of cars pass me while I'm riding the speed limit. So, I connected my Garmin and, huh? At 65mph indicated on the speedo I am actually 59 mph! Is there a way to fix this? The odometer seems to be pretty close. Only off about a tenth is 5 miles.

Get a bigger front tire or go faster all the time. I do both.

Common problem, and it changes as your tyres get worn and changed etc.
Over here you cannot get prosecuted for exceeding the speed limit by up to 10 per cent, and in fact, when I took my car test I would have failed it for dawdling had I not been doing an indicated 32mph in a 30mph zone

Yep Dave, you're quite correct! You see Chris, the bigger diameter front tire you'd have, the less revolutions your wheel would make over any given length of road surface, thus making your speedometer's readings slower.
(...unless of course we're talkin' about the speedo of a 1949 Dodge Meadowbrook Sedan OR some old Honda Dream...and THEN all bets are off!!!)
Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

I have the exact issue. My speedo is about 10% off. 80 mph indicated is really about 72 mph in reality. I just do the math in my head.

My speedometer reads high also (according to my Garmin). When I am in a 55 mph zone I just do 60 on the speedometer which will put me about 2 mph over the limit.
The troubling thing is, at the lower speeds 20 mph or so, my speedometer reads about 5 mph low. Which as you and I know will get you a ticket in a school zone in our part of the state.
Will be in need of a front tire in a month or so. I will check the before and after actual speeds to see how much it changes. I am sure it it will, but it is the lower speed that bothers me.

Been posts about this before and yes the odometer seems to be close if not right on the money. The speedo varies as you go faster.

Just remember... go with the flow of traffic. If you are the traffic, think 10%.

Your new speedo is dead on accurate right, Keith? Since you're using the magnet set up, you don't get that error...correct? Just curious.
