Knee pads on a blue and black tank?

I'm wondering if it's worthwhile putting knee pads on my tank. It's blue and black, with the areas that the pads would go in being black. I'm thinking they might just disappear.

Opinions? Pictures?

it is nice to have a contrast in color where the knee pads are...but Ive seen them on black bikes and still liked them

I never did get around to finishing these...I was actually still gonna paint them gloss black so they werent too loud.

That's pretty cool. I'm kind of over diamond plate, but I like the idea.

Here's the pads on a black w/ white tank. This is on the EFI tank, so the shape is somewhat different.

I think they look awesome, even on a black background. They give the tank that Triumph authenticity AND they protect the paint. I find my knees right up against the pads at times and because I wear chaps, the leather could otherwise scuff the clear coat (like it has on the side cover).

That's pretty nice looking. I think I'm convinced. What do I need to know about which pads fit which tank? I've got carburetted 2003 bike with a 2006 Speedmaster tank on it.

Just ask/look for pads for a 2006 Speedmaster. As long as you don't go newer than 2007 you should be fine.

And they just peel and stick, right?

be sure and wipe the area to be stuck to, with rubbing alcohal or some such to get the wax build up off the tank or they wont stick and you wont like that

Yeah, they are. But as Myke pointed out, ya gotta strip the wax off of that part of the tank. I used ammonia and rinsed with water. The paint was untouched and the pads stuck very well.
