Reverse the wires on the coils and see if the problem changes sides. Have to swap the wires on both ends of the coil the ones that power them and the sparkplug leads. If the problem changes sides you probably have a bad CDI if not then you probably have a bad coil.

Might be wrong here but if the problem changes sides with both primary and secondary wires switched, then the coil is bad. If it doesn't switch, then the problem is the CDI unit.

BTW, make sure the air gap on the pickup coil is .8 mm.

Anybody know what the resistance value of the pickup coil is??

No , if you have a bad coil the problem stays where the bad coil is.

I think we are saying the same thing. I agree, the problem follows the coil. Follow this drawing....does it make sense?

Yes that is what I was saying, guess I was unclear too. I meant the same coil stays bad so the problem would switch cyl. not coils. I was speaking side meaning coil so the left coil would remain the bad coil if the left cyl was misfiring so then once the leads were switched the left coil would remain the bad coil causing the right cyl. to then misfire once running on the left coil. I can see where anyone might think side meaning cyl vs. coil side.

thanks i have done this but did not swap plug leads, is this nessasary, i already changed plug leads over at first, and it sparked up on good side, then i changed te coil leads over and it sparked ok , on the bad side , its the right hand side throttle side, that bad read sum threads and it seams that this is a common idication that the cdis gone .update today i unplugged the cdi and replugged it and she fired up both sides took it for a run and a few miles it started again. I think its procom time, gutted as just had the igniter remapped to 8500 three months ago

Hi all, not sure if its related to air gap, but im havin probs with my america "missing", intermittently, changed the plugs, but still seems to be a problem. Runs OK on start up, with choke, but misfires on low rev range. anyone got any thoughts on what to check next? Im heading towards the pick-up coil trigger, but if anyones got any suggestions ??

You must swap the leads or you could do damage starting due to the 270º firing.
