I did it last weekend and added a K&N air filter at the same time. It increased the low and middle range but the top end suffered. Also the plugs looked like they were running leaner than they already where. I will get a couple of mains (122) I think before doing it.

This should be done with carb adjustments at the same time to gain the performance.

True. In my case I exchanged the snorkel for a bellmouth while adding a K&N and my bike stopped pulling hard, period! Just couldn't do it. Put it all back to stock until I'm ready to fiddle with the carbs.

Now come on Keith. When exactly are you going to bite that bullet buddy and get into those carbs (and the rest) to unleash you're baby's true potential?

Now don't get me wrong mate, but it's your bike I'm concerned for here. Like, From memory you've been talking for some time now about "when you're ready" or some such, or am I imagining things MMM?

ie:
Quote:

until I'm ready to fiddle with the carbs

I reckon I must have heard you say this 50+ times now and this last time is just one too many times now for my liking, and I'm fed up.

Time to bite that bullet buddy, no more excuses or I'll come over there and rip your blo#dy arms off

Just imagine how you would feel looking all nice and prurdy in the cosmetic department but with no real grunt. Time to get some gumption into ya (Gumption's like chryptonite but in reverse LOL) .

Actually, Stunted is one word I reckon she must be feeling like and probably neglected is the other. It's not good enough

Let's face it Keith, you'd have to agree this behaviour is sailing very close to being almost criminal and you're baby deserves better

So time's up mate. If you're not READY this winter you may even force me to ring one of those departments over there like the "Bonny Bast##disation Dept" or something like that and make a formal complaint.

Just think about that mmm? She may even be confiscated if you're not careful and given to a better home

So C'mon. Time's up - get into her brother. She deserves better.

I think he is so afraid of tinkering with the carbs......he's bought another bike he doesn't need to.

I'll meet you in Wawa if you give me the Trophy. Maybe I can appreciate it a bit more if I own it for you. That is always an option given the comments on the other post.

Just trying to help.....right.....

You don't say if your bike is EFI or carburated. The replies above relate to carbed bikes. On an EFI bike the EFI will self regulate the AF mixture to accommodate the snorkel removal and also K&N filter.

Removing the snorkel won't cause any damage on an EFI bike. Running lean on a carbed bike may cause damage if you are too lean.

I noticed performance gains - but I also had freer flowing aftermarket pipes.

Cheers, Richard

I took my snorkel and cut a hole in the bottom of my filter/box and not my bike has cut out in the rain (2 of 3 times). Any Ideas on how to correct this? Bike never cut out in the rai before the mod was done.

Plug the hole.

Mine cuts out when I ride in the rain without my waterproof socks over the (completely exposed) K&N filters. Too bad you couldn't fit an Outerwear cover on the inside of the stock filter.

Yea I have been looking for the water resistant sock with no real luck.

Don't know if a screen would work.

I think I'm going to try a new filter and leave the one end closed and see if that helps.

you think? May try that if the uni won't fix it. I hope to go with a FREAK one day, but wondered if I'd have the same problem now.

I'm guessing that water is splashing up in the hole and getting through the air filter. The screen could act primarily as a splash guard. Some would still get through, of course. It's worth a shot.

Ya all are making me stress about pulling my snorkel off. Would love to get the K&N and then fit a bell-mouth over it. The only problem is im not one of those fair weather riders. I ride year round rain or shine so im wondering how much risk just pulling the snorkel with out drilling out the box is?
