I have a 08 speedmaster but I've been looking at the thruxton recently. Thats why I posted. Just wondering if any has gone that route. I had a 2003 sv650s for a couple of years before i got my speedmaster. I like cruisin around in the speedmaster but I kinda miss the way I could throw around the sv. I figured the thruxton would be a good in between. If my wife reads this she will probably kill me, I've only had the speedmaster for a year give or take. If she hears I'm thinkin' about trading it in she'll freak,,,,I like to live dangerously though,,,,lol __________________ I pledge allegiance to the flag of the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.....

Yup. The only opinion that's the right one is yours. You know the best answer as to how and what you want to ride so stick with your gut.

I love my America, but the Thruxton is a pretty awesome bike! If your riding style is more along the lines of a Thrux, go for it.

Yep psalm, Thruxtons are definitely cool, retro, cafe racin' lookin' motorcycles that you can "throw around" in the twisties, however let me ask ya a question here:
Are you still runnin' the stock shocks and fork springs on your Speedy?
'Cause ya see, just replacin' THOSE with aftermarket units such as those manufactured by Progressive Suspension will GREATLY contribute to makin' your already owned Speedy handle those aforementioned twisties a heck of a lot better, so ya don't have to always just be "cruisin'" along on it.
(yep, point is, these here Triumph "Cruisers" are probably just about the best handling "cruisers" one can purchase, ONCE of course, after you get rid of the lousy friggin' pieces of crap that Triumph calls "shocks" on 'em when you first ride 'em out of the showroom!)
Yep, in fact, there just happens to be a very VERY nice stretch of road known as White Spar Pass which begins just one half of a mile from my home here in the mountain community of Prescott Arizona, and after I make sure that there are no local cops or AZ Highway Patrol officers sittin' at a couple of lookout points with their friggin' radar units, I VERY often while riding said twisty road will find myself rapidly coming up upon NOT ONLY the slower moving and ubiquitous Harleys around here, but ALSO even the occasional Squid ridin' his sportbike.
THAT'S how well these Triumph "Cruisers" can handle, ya see!
Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

Only you know what you want. You went from 75HP to about 60, mid controls to forward, v-twin to p-twin.
The Thruxton moves the pegs back, changes the bars and the crank angle. It is still not a V-twin and not as powerful.
If you ride highway, I strongly suggest you test drive one for a bit. Remember the old days, handlebar buzzzz.
Hey Dwight, I remember that road! Cool road to be sure.

I have an America and a a Thruxton. My Thruxton is an 04 with clip ons which for me anyway makes it not much of a distance bike. The newer ones have handle bars that make them a lot more comfortable. But, yes you can "throw" them around, they will turn on a dime. The Thruxton is a hoot.

(sorry for the hijack here psalm, BUT....) ...Ron, I just got back from my ride and I KNEW that cop would be at that lookout spot today, but unfortunately for the guy drivin' his beautiful shiny new Shelby Mustang and with whom I was kind'a dicin' up White Spar, that is UP UNTIL the last bend before that lookout spot and who DIDN'T slow down...well...the poor sucker done got pulled over!!! I can just imagine the first words that dude said to the cop..."Hey, how come you didn't pull over that guy on the bike behind me too?!"...hee hee!!! (okay psalm ol' boy, now back to your issues of motorcycles, their suspension, and how a so-called "Cruiser" "can't handle" and supposedly "can't be fun to throw into corners"!)

Psalm I am in the process of bungin on shocks and Intiminators on my America to improve the ride.If I'm still not convinced of the cruiser thing I will pull em all off again and do the same as you.Thruxton or T100.At least the suspension components will fit.

Yeah, two totally different types of bikes. Both are nice in their own way. Funny thing, I recently had to replace the stock front tire which was worn after only 5K miles. The dealer didn't have a direct replacement 90/110, so I put a 90 / 100 on it (which is a slightly narrower tire). I figured it would look cool and wouldn't realy affect the handling. Well, I was wrong, the bike feels lighter and more flickable with the narrower tire. Took me a little while to get used to it, but overall not bad. So there may be a cheaper solution for you out there.

I love my Speedy, but lately the riding position is hurting my tailbone, I am probably going to sell my beloved speedy and get a thruxton, I have 2 other bikes, they all fill a niche, btw they are a 2008 HD Fatbob and a 2009 Kawasaki Versys
Triumph Scrambler Diablo Red & Silver (2014), Arrow Exhaust, FI remapped with TTP #4, 16 tooth sprocket, Triumph Gel Solo seat & Rack, Progressive 440 1" lowered Shocks, SAI & O2 Removal, Airbox Restrictor Plate removed.
