Has anyone installed a Laminar lip, and if so, what's your impressions?

I trial fitted one to a memphis shades windshield. It didn't seem like a very good idea(it would have been ugly) so i never had it on the road.

I just finished ordering one and will fit it to a modified Clearview screen. If it cuts down on the buffeting I'll live with the look.

Buffeting is caused by vortices at the bottom and sides of the screen. Lowers are the biggest help for buffeting.
let us know how the lip works out.

Bill's right... buffeting is caused by wind coming up from underneath the screen. The top has little to do with buffeting. Case in point... this year I installed a MS Big Shot. I found I didn't like looking through the screen so I cut it down to the point where I could look OVER the top. This mod made NO DIFFERENCE to wind around my head.
Before that I installed MS lowers... huge difference! Later I made up my own pair of lowers which ran from the bottom of the screen to the fork seals. Now that took care of virtually ALL turbulence including buffeting.

still, it will be interesting to see what the laminar lip does do. I always thought it would be neat if I could see over the screen and still ahve the wind noise kept off a bit.

Ummm, true! Hey Robert, if you do end up with one let us know how things turn out!

Bill, looks aside I had one until I forgot to put my side stand down and laid my bike down in my garage. Result, severely scratched lam lip so it went into the bin.
My experience was it helped move air further up over my head but increased the amount of air coming up from below.
Since then, like Keith (mountainman) I bought a MS big shot but without lowers, still too much air was moving up from below. I've since installed MS lowers but cos IMHO they weren't designed for the big shot, they actually worked better for me in an upside down configuration and believe it or not I like the look of em. Sounds wacky I know but in all honesty, the results are fantastic. FYI, I inherted the Triumph Summer Screen which was way too low and a buffeting nightmare. I then bought the Clearview but due to unforeseen circumstances to do with rear shock spring ratings, it too became too low but now finally, I've found my utopia and I'm not changing anything.
Good luck but if you do decide to upgrade sometime in the future, both myself and Keith (I believe I can speak on your behalf can't I Keith?) are very happy with our current setups.

Yup, no problem Staffo. I am happy with my set up, however I replaced the MS lower shields with my own custom made pair. I kept the hardware... it's fantastic, but I cut out a pair of shields to extend from the bottom of the screen to the fork seals. I can sit behind my screen now with only a flutter of air caressing my face as I ride. Whimsical as that sounds... it's true!!

Yeah, I've seen your setup Keith. Looks good mate. Mine is working similarly. In fact unless it's cold, I generally ride with my face shield up and a pair of sunnies and even without the sunnies it makes little difference ie no watering eyes etc. Yep, it took me a little while to get it right but now I couldn't be happier either, particularly when it rains and I'm riding with a naked bike (not naked bike rider ) riding buddy. The comparisons in how wet each of us are really makes it so much more rewarding

I will be picking up my LamLip in a few days and once it installed I'll let you know if its worth the money. I presently have a Clearview SS + MS lowers on my bike but still felt there was room for further improvement. Just calculated my mileage today at approx 50mpg (8.6l per 165km). And this consisted of mostly city riding.

The outcome is - the Lam Lip did not work for me. What seems to work is cutting down the Clearview screen by 5" (getting cleaner air) and installing a pair of homemade lowers approx twice the size of the MS brand. Will post pic shortly.

Huh. How would you describe the effect of the 'lip when you tried it?

Huh... so the lip didn't work it's 'magic' for ya Robert. Yeah, it seems those lowers are the ticket to a low turbulence ride alright. I did the same thing in that I made up a pair much longer than the MS lowers. My America is real quiet behind that screen now. Still though, like Bill I'd be interested in hearing what effect (if any) it had on your ride.

Well guys there was no "magic". I did not notice any discernable difference, perhaps someone of a different height and bike config would notice a change. It felt no different than with the "stock" Clearview (pounding on top, forward portion of helment). I do notice an improvement with just having the CV lowered (top 5" off). Just mostly wind noise and bit of buffeting now, and yes, the lowers make a huge difference.

I would also like to add, while we are on the subject of wind and buffeting, has anyone noticed that when riding your bike through a tunnel that 99% of wind noise and buffeting disappears. Try it yourself, find a reasonable long tunnel and at the end of it you should have noticed a huge decrease in wind noise and buffeting. Why is that??

Is that the Massey Tunnel you've tried this out on?

Right you are. It"s a perfect world in there, a bit dark and damp, but silent.
