So, the Starship, my 2004 America, has about 60,000 km - a bit under 40,000 miles. I've replaced chain and bearings once so i'm sure it's fine for the season but I'm thinking about trading for a 2009 or 2010 America.
Basically, I would do it because I can, but the advantages would include the EFI and less concern about what's going to go next and where. Oh, and it would be a NEW BIKE!
So, wish me luck as i start calling around for deals.

There are still a lot of good deals on E-bay for brand new 09 Americas and SMs.

Cool! I wonder what colour you'll end up with. Btw Bill, what bearings did you replace? I was thinking you swapped out chain and sprockets but...

I'm looking at the eBay bikes for sure. It would be a hassle to import but there would be a major saving.
Prices here are like $9300 msrp plus fees. The trade offer is $3,700 which I think is fair. The net with taxes is $7,351.
If that bike went for $6,000 with $500 fees, shipping to somewhere nearby would be $800'ish, taxes and import fees would bring it to C$8,900. If I got $3,700 for my bike that would be $5,200. Well worth some trouble.
I'm going to at least contact that seller and look into whether warranty service would be an issue.

Have to change the speedo bringing one into canda . be an extra cost. but you could sell the old /new one on ebay. I brought one from canda a couple of years ago lot less than buying one in the uk it was brand new as they change over to km/h and sell off the ( mph ) ones there take off the inported bikes atb geoff

oh yeah, the speedo - good point!
the other thing is that the auction could go quite a bit higher. If it ended 1000 higher it would get marginal.
