Just read the sad news that RJD has died from stomach cancer at the age of 67. I know that I spent many hours as a youngster listening to the bands he sang with ( Rainbow, Sabbath, & Dio) and here are links to two of my all time favourite tracks Stargazer & Heaven & He!!Ronnie - thanks for the memories and the music!!

Sad news indeed
I was told the other week that he was appearing with Sabbath at this years Bloodfest, which is just down the road from here. I was tempted to go
Guess I wont be going now

It was all over XM Radio today. Eddie Trunk did a special tribute on his Monday Night metal show, with former band members etc. calling in. Sad. I saw him perform with Rainbow and Sabbath. At my age, I only knew Sabbath as fronted by Ronnie. Heaven & Hello and Mob Rules are still two of my all time favorite albums. Eddie was playing a lot of the Heaven & ****** album released last year. Unfortunately, I didn't care much for it.

Very sad news indeed. Like many of you have already said I also grew up listening to Rainbow, Black Sabbath and Dio. The guy had an amazing voice and leaves behind a legacy of some fantastic songs. RJD RIP

A great man, a great singer, a great musician and the one that got my wife to like heavy metal (with help from Rob Halford).
I am truly sad for the loss.

It's called the Mal D' Occhio. The Evil Eye. Ronnie said his Italian Grandmother would use it to ward off the Evil Eye(fingers pointing up) or to give the Evil Eye(fingers pointing toward the person you're casting it on.)

Ronnie goes back a long ways. He was recording as early as '62 as Ronnie Dio & the Prophets. Kind of a doo wop thing. I discovered him in '72 with a band called "Elf", their first LP. It was more rock and roll than the heavy stuff he became known for. Check it out sometime. It's a good album.

All part of the RJD legacy. I like to throw mine and yell "yeah" loudly. Rock on my brothers! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sign_of_the_horns

Interesting, I was not familiar with Elf. Neat cover here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PqdRijZUNMY&feature=relatedQuote:

A truely sad loss for the rock & metal community. Saw him perform solo & with H&H many times. no matter the size of the venue the show was ALWAYS top shelf & nothing less. 1 of the last true gentlemen of the industry. I listened to the Eddie Trunk show on Sirius & wish I could get his show on Q104.3 this friday. great quote from RJD: "It's not the size of the pencil, but how big you write your name."

Thanks for the links for the songs on that first post. I put the headphones on for Stargazer. I don't know if I heard the song until I listened to the Boneyard on XM, and I didn't even know the name until your thread. I only knew it was early Dio but not whether it was Rainbow or Elf. One of my favorite songs now. After going to the Elf cover above, I was surprised by grasshopper feast. Good stuff.
