I'm about to put my primary cover back on the BA, and I have a few questions.... The dowel that goes on the clutch selector rod does it go flat side towards the clutch or is it the rounded end towards the clutch? Also any other tips to getting this on a smoothly as possible? In the triumph manual it doesn't show which orientation it is. TIA Side note i just picked up a 42 triumph hawk #2 jacket and a pair of small as1's for 500$ total what a steal, and good quality stuff.

looks, but more importantly safety is what I look for price is not a factor in buying gear.

The only problem I have with it is it's a bit too long for the cruiser riding position, I think it is more suited for a sport bike leaning forward position... and being a little long it pushes the collar up and makes it a little uncomfortable on my neck at times. But a smaller size didn't fit in the sleeves. I wish I could have ridden with it before I bought it.

Still scratching my head trying to figure out what you're talking about...

I think the rounded end goes towards the clutch. If you study the way the arm rotates the shaft that hits that dowel, it has a flat spot that dowel rests in. When the shaft rotates, the flat spot turns and pushes on the dowel.
Also, if this is the first time you've done it, be careful with the loose pin and wavy washer that hold the starter drive gear.

ahh great i took this cover off over a year ago, and haven't tried to put it on till today due to other work on the bike i had no rush to put the cover on and oil it up.... I can't find my wavy washer GRRRR.... Also when i put the cover on for a test fit the clutch wont even engage at all. you can feel the pressure from the arm but the trans just stays in gear. Could the clutch assembly just need a little oil to be free again? Can I get a wavy washer at the hardware store instead of the dealer.... 45 min away

The clutch may just be stuck, it is a fairly common thing after sitting a while. Should be able to pop it loose by rocking the bike with the lever pulled and bike in gear, may have to rock it pretty hard. If not you can start it and drop it in gear, that almost always knocks em loose. This is as long as the lever feels like you are disengaging the clutch when you pull it.

I don't see why not as long as it's spring steel and the right size.
