Hello, Everyone.

New rider and new to this forum.

Just bought my first bike - 2004 Triumph America - and i have this bracket where the rear shocks attach to the frame. It looks like it's suppose to lower the riding height but I'm not 100% sure as I have never seen it before. Anyone know for sure and wouldn't this lessen the clearance between the wheel and fender? Not sure if i should keep it as I'm afraid it might bottom-out.

I'd like to post a picture but have not figured how to do it yet.

Thanks.

Ron

Welcome to the site.

Sounds like you have a set of lowering blocks. They change the angle of the shock and lower the bike 2". The tire will bottom out on the fender on big bumps with them . Some use them.

Many go with a shorter shock rather than rake the angle back that far.

Since the bike is new to you and you are new to riding my advice is take them off and bolt the shocks on where they're meant to be. Once you learn to ride the bike with the proper frame geometry you can make an intelligent decision about lowering.

best / easiest is with a motorcycle jack. jack it up unbolt the shocks, remove the lowering block & replace the shock in it's original spot.

Without the jack, you need a strong friend or two, & do one side at a time, unbolt the shock get strong friend(s) to lift up the bike put shock back on. the second side is a bit easier, do the right side first so the kickstand helps to stabilize things.
