 I had my bike already to ride, the balancing of the front wheel all done. So i rolled it off the table,Then went over to "unchain" my Argon bottle[big one]. They way a ton ..even empty.So the phone rings and i walk over to it,to talk a minute.And you can just about guess the rest!!!I hung up the receiver, and gently pushed on the welder, and as you know when that bottle starts downward. In an instant, You can't stop it. BAMM....IT LANDS RIGHT ON MY REAR FENDER,twisted the t/s, and scratched the fender, gouged it. and buckeled it right up where the fender strut ends.talk about a crumby day, But ALAS, THE FENDER IS OFF AND BACK AT THE BODY SHOP.Some days aren't worth gettin up!!! I think i shall lay in bed!! and see what befalls me! if i ain't movin at all!!!

I can count myself lucky maybe, coulda been worse.Thanks for the up lifting guys. Sad part is i have only done this twce in All the bulids i've done, The other was a fresh.award winning 1932 ford sedan.I was really shaken by that one.GOD i wanted to ride the bike , bad!!!! As all the kinks were worked out[i think]

Sorry to hear about the bad luck. Your just lucky it was the bike and not you that got crushed. I have a friend that lost 2 fingers when he tried to catch a falling argon tank.

Glad you weren't hurt and it wasn't worse! I was thinking in the middle of your story, "Oh man, I hope it didn't bust the valve off!" how far will a tank of argon fly with a wide open valve? I know that dive tanks can become deadly missles when full...

Ihave done this twice over the span of years.When it falls.......it falls off the heigth of the hole in the rear of the welder.The bottle is tall enuff to figure it hits diretly below the valve 3" or [edge of tank]so. So all is good there, Now the tank i was foolin round with, was empty,So that was a stroke of good luck.........naww i'll call it a real quik blessing.
I had a buddy who used to be in the navy. he told me they would get drunk on sat nite! lay those bottles on a flat board the heigth of the ships railing, Then take a 5 lb mall and knock the valves off of them'[ brass] and watch them fly out of site in the moon light.
I remember he said they were like a feathers when flying.

Well Tom, do ya know what will usually keep THAT from happenin'?
Reflectors placed strategically upon said argon bottles...THAT'S what!  
(and BTW Bob, sorry to hear this...hope ya get the fender back soon so ya can ride that nice lookin' bike you recently fixed back up...oh, and PLEASE move that friggin' argon bottle someplace else and AWAY from ALL motorcycles and Hot Rods located within the confines of your garage!)
