Just rolled over 40,000 miles. Other than general maintenance: An '05 BA bought in June of 2005
Second battery Second chain guard second set of rear break pads Third set of tires The speedo cable loopy thingy on the fender still needs to be replaced Second set of after market exhaust (won't get on my high horse about Bub) Second headlight courtesy of a rock Swapped the stock seat for a Corbin within months of ownership The Speedo is off by about 10-15 mph
The front rotor is warped and causes the front brake to pulse like crazy. Perhaps the warping occurred when it got wet while hot??
After nearly five years, I still can't justiy the cost of the big bore kit. The lil' 790cc engine is all thats needed. I'll save that $1200 and apply it to the rumored Triumph Trophy or BMW R1200RT fund.
I look forward to hitting 100k miles on it.
Didn't buy into the hype, you can keep the change.

I have this same problem. I also had it with my dual-disc BMW R100. Thing is, changing out the rotors didn't help. Neither did replacing the front wheel. It remains a mystery.

Should be no problem, especially with that Corbin on there. Stay safe and enjoy the next 40k!!

I should mention that on the BMW, I replaced the front rotors with semi-floaters, so if warpage had been that problem, that should have taken care of it.

I have the same problem and was about to change the disk. From what I am reading here that might not fix the problem. If any one has a solution please post.

One of the things that causes front rotor warpage is the habit many of us develop of keeping the brake applied after stopping. The pads are hot too, and that section of the rotor remains hot as the rest cools. If it's after a particularly hard braking from high speed, that can cause warping.
If you can, release the brake as soon as you are stopped.

That really makes sense! I too have a warped front rotor and if anything explains preventative measures, that sure does! From now on I'll pay attention to that.

Good tip, Bill! Thanks for that!

42,224 on my 2005 now....have replaced the chain (not sure if it needed it) rear sprocket and cush drive (popping), igniter unit, rear fender and tail light (made $400 on that deal), several sets of Dunlop 404's, getting a new rear tomorrow, she has been a great machine for what I paid for her in early 2006, which was $6892 brand new. My speedo loop thingy was still intact until I actually touched it last month, and it fell apart. Never experienced the "warped disc" thing yet.

I too had the warping issue, sorted it out with a fully floating disk last year and it's been okay for about 10,000 miles.
Great tip Bill!

How difficult is replacing the rotor? (A mechanic did my BMW). Is it just a matter of unmount wheel, unbolt rotor, bolt new rotor on, or is there some finesse involved?

The hard part is getting the bolts out of the rotor you have to put some heat to them to loosen up the lock tight.

Ah. Then I assume you need to put more loctite on them when they go back in?

I think trying to change this habit of a lifetime will be harder than giving up smoking
