It’s a good thing that kids know it all and won’t let anyone tell them any different. Well I just got home from a less than interesting little trip. I posted a little ways back how my kid got a brand new 675 Daytona. All was good and about 2 weeks later he got a ticket in his car for going 96 mph in a 65 zone. I warned him and told him that he better watch because with that ticket it won’t take much more for him to lose his license. Well he went to bike nite all was good and on his way home he got pulled over for going thru a yellow to red traffic light because the cop said that he accelerated. Well in his infinite wisdom before going to bike nite he took the license plate off his old bike because (coincidence) it reads ZRT32 (Z Racing Team 32) where the one that he removed is a big temporary cardboard plate from Maryland, (not cool). Yep you guessed it they picked up on that pretty quick and they also caught that he was still on a permit (Not allowed to ride after dark). He called and told me what happened except for the license plate issue and said he needed me to come and pick up the bike with my truck. So I grabbed a ramp and then thought well, I will just grab my jacket and riding gear and ride it to his house. Well the cops informed me that that would not work because of the plate issue. So we commence to start loading it up in the back of the truck and the cops pull out and we continue to load the bike. My kid on the left and I was on the right, we were half way up the ramp as it starts to get heavy he pushes extra hard on the handlebars and of the ramp it goes scraping up the faring bending the brake pedal and breaking the right turn signal. I just managed to get out of the way without it falling on top of me but it still got my knee and hip a little. Needless to say he is sick over it and I tried reasoning with him over the mistakes he made not that it was gonna make it better but that he needs to think of the consequences before he acts upon them. I feel bad for him as he is a good kid but just doesn’t think things thru sometimes. Well this will cost him in repairs, fines and probably loss of license for a while. Maybe he will listen to me a little more from now on…….. No probably not!

Hey ya Ron, that's a tough bunch of lessons all piled up there together... but I thinkin' a some of it's bound to sink in, as your son bounds off into the world of adulthood and (friggin') responsibilities. He'll learn... maybe not at the pace you'd like him to, but he'll learn. Like you said, he's a good kid and from what you're telling, he'll figure it out.
Remember when we were his age? Oh yeah... did we do some stupid things? Some the stuff I did woulda caused my Ma's hair to fall out had she known. Most of it I got away with (more so than your son by the sounds of it) but some of it I had to face. In the end we all do pretty good in spite of ourselves leading me to a state of constant wonder at the fact that I'm still here.
Live to love, love to live.

Ahhh, youth....I remember it so well... Well, at least the parts that hurt. I guess that's how we learn!

Hey Ron considering "the youth of today" it could be a lot worse.

Yutes, I tell ya... Ron, that story sux for sure and hopefully the kid learned at least something from the experience. I love both my kids to death, but man, they are both dumb as rocks when it comes to common sense. Of course since they are teens, they already know everything anyway.
A word to the wise is not necessary. It is the stupid ones who need the advice.

Of course, none of it was his fault at all.

Oh, believe me when I tell I feel blessed that my kids are actually good kids. If they only did half of the things that I did growing up they might be considered hoodlums. I was nowhere near an angel. I may be a little biased but I think I had a whole lotta common sense back then compared to my kids and a lotta other kids that I have had to deal with. I am pretty sure that this will teach my kid a valuable lesson though!
