I'd never heard of it Although I do like the literal translation of its name "Sleeping Sh*t"
Too old to die young, too ugly to leave a good looking corpse

As an adult, I tend to think of "smut" in the production sense related to the grains; wheat, & barley. http://scarab.msu.montana.edu/Disease/DiseaseGuidehtml/webFunghead.htmAs a child I tended to equate "smut", with risking a bar of Ivory soap in the mouth jh

So John, THAT must explain why you've always come across to me as bein' "99 44/100% pure" of good ol' homespun humor!!! (...yep, I said humor, NOT humour there, ol' buddy!!!)
Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

BTW Jim, sorry, but I think I'll pass on the Corn Smut tonight.
(...however, IF per chance their menu might include a plate of BBQ-ed Hippopotamus snout served on a bed of roasted Lychee nuts, THEN you're talkin' dude!!!)

I grew up on a farm and I used to hate getting a hand full of that when I was picking sweet corn.
I learned all I need to know about life by killing smart people and eating their brains. Eat right ,Exercise ,Stay fit, Die Anyway!

It's true,
Growing up in a small town & widely known as a beacon of common decency, I was the kid other parents wanted their kids to play with. My parents regarded me as the resident "voice of reason" for my two siblings.
Then in my late teens I heard the boogie blues band "Short Stuff" featuring Jimmy Liban on harp and soon thereafter was owner of a Triumph motorsickle
But I've never eaten diseased corn

Brains are good too.
Not for those with a cholesterol restricted diet though.

Do a search for a song named "Smut" by "Skyhooks" was released here in the 70's in Australia, you may find the real meaning of the word.

And that picture is of fresh corn smut. Apparently it becomes black and slimy after only a few hours. Kinda makes you wonder who was the first person to say to themselves, "I wonder what that tastes like?" Quote:
