Hi Folks. I would like to get a Triumph backrest/luggage rack combo, and I'm currently unsure if I should get the tall or short one. This is for my passenger, and a T-Bag on the luggage rack.

My questions are;

1. How big is the luggage rack? I have a Vegas T-Bag that straps onto the backrest.

2. Regarding the height of the pad for the tall and short backrests, how tall are they?

I'm going to change the stock seat on the Speedmaster to either the America seats or Corbin Solo/Pillion. I'm not sure if the Corbin is thicker than the America Pillion seat, and if it is, does anybody know by how much? Would it be better to get the taller backrest with the Corbin Pillion?

I can view/try an America at my local dealer, but I have no idea about the Corbin seats. Any words of wisdom would be appreciated.

Thanks,
H.

If it's mostly you riding and gear on the back,. go with the short because it looks better. If you go 2 up, get the taller one for passenger comfort. The Corbin will work fine with either, with the short bar the pad will be a few inches over the seat top. The rack will be about level with the top. Your luggage will strap on tho the rack with no problems, but will probably hug the tall better.
Me? I have the tall now, had the short for a couple years before that. My wife likes the tall much more. I have a Nelson Rigg pack that works great on the rack with the tall, but it worked just as well with the short.

Short bar with rack....

tall bar without rack (its now on a shelf)....

Awesome feedback! Thanks.

How does your wife like the Corbin pillion seat? Is it worth it over the America stock seats?

She is as comfortable as I am, even doing over 300 miles in a day. The Corbin is definitely worth it. I also relocated the passenger pegs, you can see they are lower and more in front than the stock location. That right there made one of the biggest improvements for comfort.

Luggage rack carrying weight.

Hi. Just received my luggage rack/backrest today (YIPPEE) and I was surprised to read in the documentation that the rack is only rated for 6.6 lbs

I was hoping for it to carry about 15 lbs. Am I optimistic? I'll also have my wife riding on the pillion so she'll be putting some pressure on the backrest as well. We are well under the maximum carrying capacity for the bike.

Thanks,
H.

15 pounds will be fine. I would go as far as saying it would hold 20-30 pounds with no trouble. They probably put that on there as a coveryourass kind of thing.
