Has anyone removed this annoying piece of metal wire that makes fillups a pain?? If so, how did you do it?

What year is your bike? EFI? If so, then I believe that's part of the baffle in the tank.
Yeah, I know, it's a bit of pain with it in the way. Gotta pump fuel in slowly.

My dealer told me it was an anti-siphoning device and it could be removed (it seems gas siphoning is a common practice in GB). They suggested snipping at both ends, hmm, let me see, snipping metal will enveloped gas vapors, that sounds like it would work!! 2008 EFI.

Oh, I didn't know that. So, if you snip the end off, what happens to the other end? Does it rattle around in the tank?
I bought a locking gas cap for the Speedmaster, and that solves the siphoning problem, but not the filling problem.

I assume you just snip one end and bend it out of the way?

Hold a lit match so you can see what you are doing then use a dremel with a grinding tip, should be easy. (DO NOT DO THAT!) Can you hold it with needle nose pliers and snip it? Maybe hold it with hemostats even?

Snipping will be difficult as the filler neck of the tank is very narrow. Triumph could have saved us alot of trouble if they had installed a locking cap on the bike like the rest of the bikes in this world, but no, they wanted to charge everyone $80CAD for a locking cap, plus they installed a device the makes an every day occurence (gasing up) a pain in the butt. Nice work Triumph!

I'm really trying hard to figure out what's the beef here. I have no aggravation during full ups at all (well, except for the paying part).

The EFI bikes have a metal wire that bisects the fuel filler opening. With the wire in place, you can't put the fuel nozzel in the tank very far, and splashback can occur if the pump is fast. You have to reduce the flowrate of the pump to minimize the splash back. I've only filled a couple times on my 2010, but I'm a little concerned that the pump may not cut off as the nozzle isn't in the tank very far.

I don't think the pump will cut off, I've been surprised how full the tank is when I've stopped fueling, the fuel being on a level with the wire thingy.
Just a wild guess here, presuming the older models don't have the wire thingy, maybe its to stop the nozzle going too far in and damaging something inside? Like the pump or fuel gauge?

Oh, okay. I understand now and can see how that would be somewhat annoying.

Yeah, that was my thought. I never thought about anti-syphoning until it was brought up here. Hard to say what the reasoning is at this point.

I saw a rubber collar a friend carries with him that may solve the problem. It sets down on the opening of the tank and the nozel fits into it making it much easier for my friend to fuel up, and no back splash.
