Hi Folks. I'd like to upgrade the seat on my Speedmaster to a Corbin Classic Solo with Pillion. I've never owned a leather seat on a motorcycle before.

I'm a little concerned about having leather as I ride quite a bit, and my bike is outside during the day. My concern is with rain. I ride in the rain (sometimes not voluntarily!), and sometimes it rains on the bike while at work. I've heard of rain hoods that you could put on, but I don't think that's for riding as it could make you slip.

Are my concerns warranted, or should I go with vinyl?

Thanks,
H.

Weather, either it be sun or rain, will wear the leather down quicker than if it were covered so it's just choice.

Do you want the weather to wear out your vinyl or your leather seat?

The leather can be conditioned to last a good long life in the elements so I wouldn't be afraid to get the leather corbin but you need to understand, it won't last forever. Some ways to preserve the leather would be to cover your seat in neets foot oil. Then, a nice finishing coat that will further waterproof, like a wax. If you go the route of the leather corbin, you should find a leather shop near you...like Tandy leather factory...and ask them what products would be best to preserve your investment. I use their products and they are excellent in quality.

I can certainly appreciate your concern. Leather is just so 'friendly' compared to vinyl and like Chris said, with a little tlc it should hold up okay. Here's mine getting pelted by snow and hail!!

Hail and snow storm? Good grief! Was that recently? The Coquihalla was dumped with snow the last two days.

What products do you use on your Corbin? It looks to be repelling the water quite well.

All that hail and snow was a couple of weeks ago. I haven't treated the seat with anything yet. It's still practically brand new, but yeah... it does repel moisture rather well.

Corbin offers their own house brand leather creme to preserve and waterproof the leather seat surfaces. Good stuff.
