So I've been doing a lot of shopping lately for the lowest profile, thinnest Dot approved half/beanie helmet I can find. Anybody found the golden ticket out there on a half helmet that is light and isn't so dang thick?

You should checkout the Daytona carbon fiber 1/2 helmet. The web site says it is "the The Smallest D.O.T. Half Shell Helmet Ever Made!!" Tom

Hey Tom, That one is on my list to check out from my research. It looks like it could be a good find too. Some of my research has also lead me to Zox Old School Shorty helmets as being pretty thin. It claims to have Fibre Glass shell construction, revolutionary thin EPS liner system for smaller profile shell. - Net Weight 840G (1.85 lbs) Anybody have anything to say about these???

headtrip helmets i have one of these. it is really light weight and quite thin. don't wear it often, as my head is more geared to the full face mode these days. but for a halfie it is really confortable.

Hey Mert, Didn't Headtrip stop selling motorcycle helmets due to a recall and now all they have is Kayak helmets??? That's what I heard. Let me know if you know different.

Looks like I have to call Headtrip on Monday to arrange to return my helmet and get a full refund.
I wonder how a company survives a recall of nearly all of their products? They had quite a few testimonials to their quality, I wonder if there are as many or more complaints that led to the testing and recall?
Oh well, I guess its on to looking for a new lid.

I wanted to give a full report on the helmet search. I appreciate all the input and have decided on the Daytona Carbon Fiber Skull Cap(DOT) . This helmet is unbelievably light and really cuts out that mushroom head Dot helmets tend to have. Plus, it looks farkin cool with the real, high quality carbon fiber. I had been using a Fulmer Ranger 1/2 helmet and the comparison is quite noticeable.   On the inside, there is still a good amount of padding but it's still very noticeable how much smaller the Daytona helmet is.  I'm thoughouly happy with it and can say it does NOT have the parachute effect at high speeds, it's so light you hardly notice it's on your head, and looks great. I also looked at the Zox 1/2 helmet with the revolutionary thin design. I held it side by side with the Daytona and hands down the Daytona was smaller and lighter. I also looked at Fulmer, Harley, and so many others I can't remember. Head Trip helmets are recalled. If they were still going I would have gone with those but they aren't Dot anymore. You could still use their helmets on your bike though and have more padding than the novelties...

That's pretty cool Chris!! Nice helmet. And you know... I've always wanted a leather helmet and while I was surfing the Daytona Helmet site I spotted the leather helmet I've been looking for. Think I just might cash in on that puppy!!

I may have to check it out Chris. The more I wear the full face helmet, the more I realize the half is kind of annoying because of the constant parachute affect. Where did you get it, online? Or did you find it at a dealer here in town?

Keith...no visor vote from me. You're too cool to wear that  . Dave and Tony...I found the Zox and the Daytona in town from a guy. Not a dealer. Sorry. On a personal note...the more I wear this helmet, the more I am thrilled with my decision. There is no wind buffeting where your head bobs around in the wind. No parachute effect cause this helmet is so dang light. It's really just perfect. I love it and couldn't be happier. I would pay full price for this helmet without a doubt if I had to do it again. I payed 100 for mine(brand new in box, with tags) off the guy I knew that didn't like it because he thought it was still too big. He went with a novelty helmet.

They say that their labs did the correct testing and they passed, the Govt tested in another lab and they didnt, so they have to abide by the Govt decision. Makes me wonder 1)why the Govt did the testing 2)How could the other lab be off 3) what about the Govt test didnt pass 4)will this put them out of business?

I have a daytona 3/4 helmet, but its not like it has a daytona manufacturer tag so it could be the carbon fiber one is bought from the same manufacture, but who knows? the way I see it, a DOT half helmet is bought to meet law requirements more than safety. As long as it says DOT on the back you get your insurance money. So who cares if its being recalled? Advanced Carbon Composites is the maker of HeadTrip Helmets. I cannot find anything that indicates they have any relationship with Daytona Helmets. Tom

I have a helmet from 1966 that came with a Yamaha. It is like a football helmet inside. It's a fiberglass shell with canvas straps and a couple pieces of foam inside. Very light and very cool since it lets air flow through around your head. It was a stock approved helmet and a 1/2 helmet.
Some pretty light and thin helmets on Ebay but don't see anything as thin as mine.

We have a law in WA that your helmet has to have the safety certification sewn into the inside of the helmet. I have a vintage helmet I used to use, but can't anymore. I ordered the T71, but haven't had a chance to try it out yet.

I think Head Trip is gone, I called and they were supposed to send me stuff to send back the helmet and get a refund. So, I waited, nothing happened. I go to their website, and..., its gone!

I just picked up the G-Max GM55 half helmet and am pretty impressed. There may be others slimmer than this but it was supposedly designed to be slimmer than most. I has a retractible inner visor as well which is cool if you forget your glasses. There is a youtube video about it by helmetharbor.com.

Huh... here's a link to that video btw. Wow... I'd have to say I'm impressed by the retractable visor feature... and the removable liner is a good thing so a guy could take it out and clean it. The size seems not too mushroomy and all in all, for the money it's seems worth looking into for a half helmet.

I've had one of these for about a year, and it's a fine little helmet. If I'm out past dark, I just put my shades away and pull down the visor.
Oh, and you can't beat Helmet Harbor!

One of my favs is the HCI Series 50 Retro....a good ol' British style "pudding bowl" that is DOT and has almost no profile and definitely no drag.

Had a Vega for a while. Its actually the lowest profile that I found. It was actually comfortable. I loaned it to some one they never returned it. 
I have no faith in human perfectability. I think that human exertion will have no appreciable effect upon humanity. Man is now only more active - not more happy - nor more wise, than he was 6000 years ago.

the problem is thinnest and dot. Thats nearly a contradiction in terms. I say if you want thin get a plastic salad bowl, an old belt, and some duct tape. youll be good to go. If its dot thats important then I guess the vega half shell.
